Josh Jacobs Injury Update: What’s the Latest on the Packers RB, and Will He Play in Week 13?

The Packers have a huge game against the Lions in Week 13, but do we know yet whether or not running back Josh Jacobs will play?

The Green Bay Packers just secured a massive win over the Minnesota Vikings, but there is zero time to celebrate. With a Thanksgiving Day showdown against the Detroit Lions just days away, the focus has already shifted to a critical question in the backfield. Josh Jacobs watched Week 12 from the sideline, and while the team survived without him, facing Detroit on a short week is a different beast entirely.

Will Josh Jacobs Return for the Green Bay Packers?

Jacobs is dealing with a knee injury sustained against the New York Giants in Week 11. Although he managed some limited practice reps last week, the team ultimately kept him inactive for the Vikings game. The short turnaround for Thanksgiving makes his status tricky to gauge.

The estimated injury report released Monday listed Jacobs as a limited participant. While that designation mirrors his status from last week, the running back sounded much more optimistic about his chances for the holiday matchup.

Speaking last week, Jacobs made his intentions for the Lions game clear.

“Worst case if I don’t play this week, Thursday I’m definitely playing,” he said, per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. “It’s not like something that’ll linger over past that. That’s really the worst-case scenario, yeah.”

Unless he suffers a setback, it looks like Jacobs will be in uniform on Thursday. His return would be huge for the offense, considering he has been a force throughout the 2025 campaign. Through 10 games, Jacobs has racked up 648 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. He adds another layer to the passing game, too, hauling in 28 catches for 237 yards. That production earned him a solid 81.9 grade in PFSN’s RB Impact ranking.

How Critical Is Jacobs to Beating the Detroit Lions?

This Week 13 clash carries massive weight for the postseason picture. Green Bay sits at 7-3-1, holding second place in the NFC North, while Detroit is right on their heels at 7-4. Both squads are chasing the Chicago Bears, meaning a loss here could significantly hurt either team’s chances in the division.

Backup running back Emanuel Wilson stepped up admirably in Week 12. Wilson logged his first career 100-yard game and scored twice, proving the ground game can function without the starter.

However, Jacobs offers a more dangerous pass-catching threat and dynamic playmaking ability that Wilson has yet to match.

That versatility is paramount against this specific opponent. The Lions rank 11th in opponent rushing yards per game, making them a tough unit to crack on the ground. Having Jacobs available gives the Packers their best shot at controlling the tempo in a game that could shape the entire NFC North race.
