Packers HC Matt LaFleur Announces Latest Update on Josh Jacobs’ Injury and Status for Week 12

Packers HC Matt LaFleur gives a key update on Josh Jacobs’ injury and Week 12 status heading into a division battle with the Minnesota Vikings

The Green Bay Packers secured a 27-20 victory over the New York Giants in Week 11, but they might have suffered a more significant loss in the process. Star running back Josh Jacobs exited the game in the second quarter with a knee contusion, and while early reports suggested he would not miss significant time, head coach Matt LaFleur’s update on Wednesday has introduced some uncertainty.

Will Josh Jacobs Play This Week?

According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, LaFleur explained that Jacobs would not participate in Wednesday’s practice. He said, “The plan is to get him healthy enough to go. He is truly day to day.”

While the “day to day” label is not a reason for panic, the situation is certainly worth monitoring closely. Even though his production has not fully matched expectations this year, Jacobs remains an integral part of Green Bay’s offense.

Despite not being as effective in 2025, Jacobs is still Green Bay’s best option out of the backfield. This season, he has rushed for 648 yards on 169 carries and scored 11 touchdowns while averaging 3.8 yards per carry. While those numbers may not stand out compared to his previous work, the context is essential.

A primary reason for the dip in efficiency has been the team’s struggles with its offensive line. Injuries and inconsistent play have plagued the unit throughout the season, making it difficult for the run game to establish a consistent rhythm. This represents a noticeable step back from the 2024 season, when the Packers’ offensive line was one of the more stable and effective groups in the league, providing its running backs with clean lanes to operate.

Interestingly, one advanced metric suggests his value remains high. According to PFSN’s running back impact metric, Jacobs ranks 12th with a score of 81.9.

Surprisingly, this impact score is actually higher than his mark from the 2024 season, when he received a score of 80.6. That year, Jacobs rushed for 1,529 yards and 15 touchdowns on 301 carries, averaging 4.4 yards per carry.

If Jacobs is unable to play in Sunday’s game, Emanuel Wilson will take over as the lead back. After the injury last week, Wilson rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. For the season, he has compiled 220 yards on 53 carries, averaging 4.2 yards per attempt.

Although Wilson is averaging more yards per carry than Jacobs, there is a massive talent gap between the two. The team is certainly hoping Jacobs can return to the practice field on either Thursday or Friday.
