Caleb Williams helped the Chicago Bears to an epic comeback win against the Green Bay Packers in Week 16 of the 2025 NFL season. His late-game performance and overtime heroics were pivotal in pulling off the upset. It also caught the attention of legendary quarterback Brett Favre, who had high praise for the rising star of his rival team.
Brett Favre Praises Caleb Williams for Bears’ Comeback Win Against Packers
Favre played most of his career with the Packers, who have always been the biggest rivals of the Bears. He also finished his career with the Minnesota Vikings, another NFC North divisional rival, so he has a long history on the opposing side of Chicago.
Even the Hall of Fame quarterback couldn’t resist giving Williams a ton of praise following their epic victory in Week 16 on Saturday night. He explained why during an episode of his “4th and Favre” podcast.
“I think you have to tip your hat to Chicago. At some point, you have to accept that they’re good. Caleb Williams, I wouldn’t say that I’ve been a bad critic on him, but I really haven’t said a whole lot about him. But man, that dude is making plays, and in the most toughest of situations, clutch throws, and I tip my hat to him,” stated Favre.
The Bears trailed the Packers by ten points in the fourth quarter before storming back to tie the game and send it to overtime. Williams then completed a long touchdown pass to DJ Moore in extra time to clinch the victory for Chicago and put them in command of the NFC North standings, with a real chance of earning the top seed in the conference for the playoffs. This would come with a first-round bye and home-field advantage.
Even though his beloved Packers lost, Favre praised the opposing quarterback for his clutch performance and for making big throws in key moments, despite not having a great game for most of the contest.
He stepped when he had to, resulting in the Packers having to battle to hang onto their Wild Card spot across the final two weeks of the season. The Bears have already clinched a playoff spot and are pursuing even bigger goals.
Williams continued his strong season by consistently showing improvements from last year. He currently ranks 18th among all quarterbacks in PFSN’s Impact Rankings, which is significantly better than his rookie season last year, when he finished ranked 31st.
