Winter Olympics 2026 update: Norway leads medal count, Italy trails close, and Team USA remains in the top three.

The Winter Olympics have passed the midway point and are only a few days away from the closing ceremony. The current edition of the quadrennial event is being held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

While host Italy is competing with Norway for overall supremacy, Team USA has maintained a top-three position. After years of pursuit, bobsled veteran Elana Meyers Taylor finally captured the elusive gold medal in her fifth attempt, edging her German rival to claim top honors.

Winter Olympics 2026 Medal Tally Featuring Team USA’s Performance

As of now, Norway leads the medal table with 28 medals. Italy, the host nation, has closed the gap with 23 medals, just five behind Norway.

Team USA maintained a top-three finish with 19 medals. The Americans have also qualified for their fifth consecutive final in the women’s ice hockey tournament, defeating Sweden to set up a championship clash with archrival Canada.

Bobsled champion Elana Meyers Taylor earned widespread praise for her performance in the monobob event at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. Germany’s Laura Nolte entered as the favorite, but Taylor’s experience across more than four Winter Olympics prevailed, as she edged Nolte by 0.04 seconds to win her first Olympic gold medal in five attempts.
