Day 5 of the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics 2026 turned out to be slightly better for Team USA. Though a medal continued to elude champion alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin, the other athletes made the most of their opportunities, earning five medals in a day.
With this performance, Team USA maintained its hold on a top-five finish in the medal tally. The American contingent now aims to accelerate the momentum with more gold medals on Day 6 (February 11).
Overall Medal Tally Of Winter Olympics 2026
The Norwegian contingent has further cemented its hold with six more medals on Day 5. They’re the table toppers with a total of 12 medals, including 6 gold medals.
Team USA continues to maintain its top-five finish, with an impressive haul of five medals. However, they’re still behind Norway, Germany, Sweden, and Switzerland in total gold medals.
This is because none of the American medalists won a gold medal, despite ample opportunities. Even Mikaela Shiffrin missed out on a podium finish by a whisker as she and her partner for the team combined event, Breezy Johnson, finished fourth overall.
