The Texas A&M Volleyball team has rewritten the history of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championships. For the first time in the history of the tournament, head coach Jamie Morrison’s pupils have made it to the finals of the prestigious tournament, after defeating five-time NCAA champion, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and, more recently, the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Unlike the Wisconsin Badgers, the Panthers couldn’t convert the strong head starts into winning sets, leading to the one-sided victory for the Aggies. Head coach Morrison revealed the turning point that led to his team’s phenomenal victory in the semifinals.
Texas A&M Volleyball Head Coach Reveals The Turning Point For Team
Head coach Morrison attended the post-match press conference alongside star players like Logan Lednicky, skipper Kyndal Stowers, and Ifenna Cos-Okapalla. Morrison remarked during the press conference when asked about the turning point for the Texas A&M Volleyball team, as he mentioned,
“Yeah, I think volleyball is a game of momentum. If this is going to sound bad, you have a weak mind. Uh, and I, and I think the thing I think I talk a lot about in our program is I care less about mistakes and I care more about responses.” [10:52 onwards]
The head coach further added,
“And I say that over and over again because again, when a team goes on a 40 run, I don’t care about the mistake that got us there. I care about what we’re going to do next. And we talk a lot about mental strength and mental fortitude and the skills that go into that.”
The Aggies will rest for a while before facing the other winners, i.e., the Kentucky Wildcats, in the finals of the 2025 NCAA Championships. The final game will be held on the night of December 21.
Texas A&M Volleyball’s Performance at the 2025 NCAA Championships
The women’s volleyball team of Texas A&M University, mentored by coach Morrison, had never gone beyond the quarterfinals since 2001. However, that was to change when the maroon and red team surprised the previous edition’s runner-up, the Louisville Cardinals, to enter the quarterfinals.
The Aggies faced the mighty Nebraska Cornhuskers in the quarterfinals, who were well determined to fulfill the dream of their head coach, Dani Busboom Kelly, i.e., an invincible ride to the top. However, the Aggies had other plans, as they knocked out the Huskers to enter their first semifinals by 3-2.
While the Wildcats from the University of Kentucky have won the NCAA Championships at least once in 2020, history beckons the Texas A&M Volleyball team as the two sides clash for the NCAA title on December 21. If they make it, coach Jamie Morrison will have another reason to pat his back for this year.
