McLaughlin-Levrone Reveals the Reason Behind Choosing to Compete in 400m Flat Instead of 400m Hurdles in 2025
McLaughlin-Levrone explained her decision to compete in the 400m flat rather than her signature 400m hurdles. In an interview with Bodega Track, she responded that it was an opportunity for personal growth by stepping out of her comfort zone. She said:
“To challenge myself. I think there’s something to be said about being uncomfortable. And I think the hurdles for me have been so fun and so normal for so long that to step outside of that and put myself in a position that really forces me to have to learn and to be resilient has been challenging, but I’ve learned so much and I’m excited to put it all together and show myself I can do it.”
Following her successful 400m finals at the World Athletics Championships 2025, McLaughlin-Levrone revealed that her decision to compete in the event was driven not just by personal but also spiritual growth, which she shared in an Instagram post.
She added that the season tested her faith and reliance on God, as she believed the choice was part of a larger divine plan for her life, especially after recovering from her 2023 knee injury. It had ruled her out of defending her 400m hurdles title at the World Athletics Championships.
