Simone Biles is one of the most recognized athletes in the sport of artistic gymnastics. She recently expressed an interest in learning how to ice skate, and a two-time Grand Prix final bronze medalist offered to teach her.
Biles has won 11 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals. She is currently tied with Vera Caslavska for the second-most wins as a female Olympic gymnast.
Lilah Fear Offers To Give Simone Biles Skating Lessons
Biles posted a video on social media, sharing her attempt at learning how to ice skate. Afterwards, the iconic ice dancer, Lilah Fear, offered to give her free lessons.
The official Olympic Games shared a video on Instagram detailing the moment Fear made her offer to Biles. The ice dancer revealed that ever since she found out about Biles’ interest in ice skating, she has been itching to show her the ropes.
“Okay, hold on. I saw a thing online that she wanted to learn. And I said to the universe, ‘I will be her teacher.’ Guess they didn’t hear me, so I’ll teach you still, Simone, anytime,” Fear said.
Fear is a two-time European silver medalist and an eight-time British National Champion. She recently represented Great Britain alongside Lewis Gibson to clinch the first World medal for Britain in 41 years.
Although Fear and Biles are professionals in different sports, the former has always been vocal about her admiration for the latter. She once applauded Biles for defying all odds and excelling during her showing at the Paris Olympics.
“Outside of skating, I admire Simone Biles so much. I study psychology and knowing in Paris that she was going to face this huge fear in front of the world, that strength and courage gives me chills. I bow down to her,” she said.
Notably, Biles won three gold medals at the Paris Olympics (vault, all-around, and team). She also won a silver medal on floor.
Simone Biles Opens Up About Exploring Ice Skating As a ‘Fun’ Hobby
Now that Biles is taking a break from competition, she is trying her hand at new activities, such as ice skating, Pilates, and horseback riding. She opened up about learning ice skating, saying that the rink is only three minutes away from her house; therefore, the proximity makes it easy for her to visit frequently.
“I am like, okay, that’s going to be a fun, little hobby… just random side quests. I’ve already called the ice rinks, I know they’re tired of hearing from me,” she said.
The 28-year-old artistic gymnast further revealed that she decided to try ice skating because she was looking for something fun to try that didn’t feel like exercise.
