Roger Federer Left Olympic Champion Marco Odermatt Feeling ‘Very Small’ At Their First Meeting

Roger Federer’s first meeting with Marco Odermatt left the Olympic champ feeling “very small,” proving the legend’s presence still commands awe.

Swiss alpine skier Marco Odermatt is all set for the upcoming Winter Olympics. The defending Olympic champion will represent Switzerland in the giant slalom. Odermatt recently spoke about his meeting with Swiss tennis champ Roger Federer.

Federer had represented Switzerland for more than two decades before ultimately retiring in 2022.

Marco Odermatt Reveals His Feelings On Meeting Federer

Odermatt recently sat down for a podcast session with the FIS Alpine channel, whose excerpt was published on Instagram. During the podcast, Odermatt revealed that he felt really small in his first meeting with the Swiss legend. In his words,

“I felt very small next to him the first couple of times we met. I was maybe like a little kid again when I met Didier Cuche the first time. But for sure, I became more and more known and kind of important for Swiss fans at home. That’s for sure, we could share some campaigns together, get to know each other. It was a nice experience for me.”

Odermatt recently competed in an FIS World Cup event in Kitzbühel. The 28-year-old alpine skier edged out his opponents by a narrow margin to win the Men’s Super G event. Odermatt has been the reigning world champion in the Super G event at the senior World Championships.

The Swiss alpine skier made a record at the 2018 Junior World Championships held in Davos, where he won a staggering five gold medals. Odermatt had previously won a gold medal and a bronze medal in his debut at the 2016 Junior World Championships held in Sochi, Russia.

Odermatt rose through the ranks to taste success at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The then 24-year-old alpine skier clinched a gold medal in the men’s giant slalom event, followed by an FIS World Cup in alpine skiing the same year.

Since then, the Swiss champion has been on a roll. Super G, Giant Slalom, Downhill, you name it, and the Swiss alpine skier won it all. Interestingly, the alpine skier has not lost a single FIS World Cup since 2022. The 28-year-old alpine skier also won two gold medals in the 2023 World Championships, followed by another gold medal at the 2025 World Championships. Odermatt aims to extend his near-invincible legacy at the upcoming Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.
