Odermatt was visibly emotional after his triumph at the Hahnenkamm Races on Friday. The 28-year-old later explained the reason behind his emotional reaction both after his win was confirmed and during the trophy ceremony.
“Honestly, I feel a little bit bad about my emotions yesterday. There is so much going on on this world, athletes who get injured or never fully reach their goals… I’m able to live my dream and reaching my goals and it shows me once again what a privilege we have to fight for our dreams and to achieve some of them – even if one dream remains,” he wrote on Instagram.
He also congratulated Franzoni on his win in the Downhill event at the Hahnenkamm Races in Kitzbühel.
The post drew a number of messages of support from the alpine skiing community and sports world. Franzoni and tennis player Sinner were among those who commented under Odermatt’s post.
