Nebraska Volleyball’s Bergen Reilly Reunites With Former Teammate Merritt Beason At Supernovas Game

A highlight of Nebraska Volleyball player Bergen Reilly's emotional reunion with former player and outside hitter Merritt Beason

Nebraska Volleyball player Bergen Reilly had an emotional reunion with former player Merritt Beason. Beason currently represents the Omaha Supernovas team in Major League Volleyball.

The Omaha Supernovas recently played a match against San Diego. Despite being down by a set, the Supernovas won the game by 21-25, 28-26, 25-17, 20-25, 21-19.

Nebraska Volleyball Players Bergen Reilly And Merritt Beason Reunite After Supernovas Victory

The X page [previously Twitter] of Hurrdat Sports uploaded a short clip of Reilly, one of the three co-skippers of Nebraska Volleyball in the 2025 season, who came to the match. She had an emotional reunion with Beason, who represented the Huskers in 2023 and 2024 respectively.

For the uninitiated, Beason is a professional opposite hitter who initially represented the Florida Gators in 2021 & 2022. She transferred to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the same season Bergen Reilly joined the Big Red team as a freshman, and was part of the squad that finished as runners-up in the 2023 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championships.

Both Beason and Reilly played a crucial role in delivering two of the three Big Ten Conference titles to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The two players were also a part of the Nebraska squad that qualified for the semifinals of the 2024 NCAA Championships, although they lost to the Penn State Nittany Lions by a whisker.

The Nittany Lions went on to win the championships, defeating the Louisville Cardinals in the finals. The 2024 edition was also the final season for John Cook as the head coach for the Nebraska team, who announced his retirement after leading the team for almost 25 years.

Reilly, alongside Rebekah Allick and Andi Jackson, led the Nebraska squad to a hat-trick of Big Ten Conference titles last year, with ex-Nebraska player Dani Busboom Kelly joining the team as their new head coach. Kelly had previously led the Cardinals to the finals of the 2024 NCAA Championships and aimed to emulate her mentor, leading the Huskers to a 20-0 win in the Big Ten Championships.

The Big Red Team followed the 2000 model verbatim [where John Cook’s squad didn’t lose a single game in the runup to the NCAA title], until the Regional Finals of the 2025 NCAA Championships.

Despite their best efforts, Jamie Morrison’s Texas A&M Aggies squad edged out the Huskers and went on to win their maiden NCAA title. In her final year as a collegiate player, Reilly would like nothing better than to give the Big Red team the much-deserved NCAA title after more than nine years.
