The program’s next matchup comes against Mark Manning’s Nebraska wrestling team, with the two sides set to play on Jan. 30. This time, Penn State will compete on home turf at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pennsylvania.
Mesenbrink Gets Candid on Team Chemistry as Penn State Wrestling Continues to Thrive
Mesenbrink opened up about the team’s chemistry following Penn State’s dominant win over Indiana. Having been with the program for multiple years, he emphasized how seamlessly newer faces have blended in alongside veterans.
The former U23 and U20 Worlds gold medalist said the strength of the group is evident when looking across the bench, where preparation and enthusiasm are shared from one end of the lineup to the other. “It’s nice to be able to look down the line both ways and just you got guys that are ready to go. They’re enjoying it and they’re having fun,” Mesenbrink said.
He added that internal motivation also plays a role, pointing to a healthy sense of competition among teammates. That balance of intensity and enjoyment fuels the team’s camaraderie, according to the 22-year-old.
Mesenbrink stressed the importance of making everyone feel valued and connected, noting that creating a sense of belonging remains central to the team’s culture.
