Nebraska Volleyball Alum Maisie Boesiger Recalls the First Time Watching Volleyball in Lincoln

Boesiger, who joined the Huskers program in 2022, first developed the desire to become part of it when she watched the players in action from the sidelines. Hailing from Norris High School, where her mother coached for four years, the libero fell in love with the crowd’s energy the first time she stepped onto the Cornhuskers’ court.

In a Hail Varsity interview, she recounted watching a game with her father, and the atmosphere quickly caught her attention, sparking her desire to play for the Nebraska volleyball team. She said:

“I remember when I went to the first game, I went there with my dad, and we had gotten to the game. It was a little bit after it had already started, and we were walking in, and the crowd just roared. They just lost their minds, and I looked up at my dad, and I was in awe because I hadn’t even seen the gym yet, and I was like, whoa, like, where are we?

“We got down there, and we watched a few points, and after a while, I looked at him, and I asked him, well, what do you have to do to play here? I thought it was just the coolest thing that I’ve ever seen.”

The 22-year-old made the Academic All-Big Ten team in 2023, 2024, and 2025, and the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award in her graduating year.
