Hailing from Edina, Minnesota, volleyball star Jordan Thompson has opened up about the recent wave of protests sweeping her home state. In the past few weeks, Minnesota has seen passionate demonstrations in response to aggressive ICE immigration raids under President Trump. Tensions reached a boiling point when an ICE agent shot Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old local, after she witnessed agents in her neighborhood.
Thompson joined the protests herself, standing among the crowd at the Whipple building in Minneapolis, where ICE agents had established a base. The scene turned chaotic as agents hurled flash bangs and pursued protestors through the streets.
Jordan Thompson Shares Heartfelt Message On Protests
Thompson represents League One Volleyball (LOVB) Houston, and last played for the team on January 12, 2026, against LOVB Nebraska. While Thompson led the way with 23 points, including 22 kills, adding a block and eight digs, her team ultimately lost. Following this, she headed back to Minnesota, as the team had a short break before their next game.
Now, as she gears up for her next match, Thompson reflects on her protest experiences and shares a message of hope:
“Heading back out on the road with a heavy heart. I’m so grateful to be competing with this amazing LOVB team, while also, as a human and Minnesotan, I am still deeply saddened and frustrated by what’s happening in Minnesota,” she wrote.
“Balance hasn’t been easy, but here’s what I’m doing right now: Celebrating small moments of joy every day, Supporting and donating to Minnesota organizations doing the work, Being fully present where my feet are – especially with my team, Amplifying voices on the ground in MN who are telling their own stories,” she added.
As unrest stretches into its third week, Minnesotans are yearning for a return to peace. In a powerful show of unity, unions, churches, and businesses have called for a statewide “Day of Truth and Freedom” on January 23rd, urging everyone to pause work, school, and shopping in protest.
Thompson on Playing in Indonesia
Following a stellar 2025 LOVB season, where Thompson was crowned MVP and dominated with 224 kills, 115 digs, and 23 blocks, she took her talents overseas. She joined Jakarta Pertamina Enduro (JPE) in Indonesia’s Proliga, making her debut in the high-stakes Final Four.
In a recent interview with Athletes Unlimited, Thompson spoke about her experience:
“The girls just have so much fun playing, and they’re so joyful. It brought me back to how I felt as a new player in volleyball, just learning the sport, in the sense of like there was just this pure joy and love and appreciation for getting to play.”
Thompson and LOVB Houston are scheduled to play next on Sunday, January 25, against LOVB Austin at the Frost Bank Center at 6:00 a.m. GMT.
