Lindsey Vonn Echoes Swiss Awe As Marco Odermatt Claims 48th Career Win in World Cup Downhill Opener

Marco Odermatt’s remarkable downhill performance in Beaver Creek caught the attention of three-time Olympic medalist Lindsey Vonn. The Beaver Creek race marked Odermatt’s first downhill competition of the season.

However, he had previously participated in and clinched victories in Giant Slalom and Super G races in Soelden and Copper Mountain, respectively. Still, the downhill triumph was even more special, as it was appreciated by a master of downhill herself, Vonn.

Lindsey Vonn Left ‘Speechless’ by Odermatt’s Terrific Outing in Beaver Creek

In Beaver Creek, Odermatt clocked a combined time of 1:29.84, defeating the likes of the USA’s Ryan Cochran-Siegle and Norway’s Smiseth Adrian Sejersted, to clinch the 48th FIS Ski World Cup win of his career, which includes 27 giant slaloms, 16 super-g and five downhill victories.

Following the victory, FIS Alpine’s Instagram handle shared a few glimpses of Odermatt’s remarkable performance on the snow at Beaver Creek to celebrate it. The caption of the post read, “We’re still speechless 👑 @marcoodermatt.”

Vonn reacted to the post with a two-word message, expressing her support for the caption. She wrote, “I agree!!”

The 41-year-old recently explained why spending time with these young skiers is essential for the sport.

Vonn said on sharing her downhill expertise, “It’s my responsibility to pass along as much knowledge as I can, because downhill is an accumulation of knowledge. You learn so much by racing the same tracks over and over.”

“So, I know these hills, and I can give them advice and say things that someone said to me when I was first starting out, but these women also have such a great attitude and energy about them,” Vonn added, reflecting on the knowledge she can pass on to the younger skiers.

Further in the conversation, Vonn shared that she maintains a good rapport with her younger teammates, despite being much older than they are.
