Nebraska volleyball’s Harper Murray paid an emotional tribute to Rebekah Allick as the latter broke down in tears following the Huskers’ loss in the NCAA Elite Eight. The Aggies pulled off the biggest upset of the season, ending Nebraska’s 63-match home winning streak and undefeated campaign.
Allick, the senior middle blocker, played her last collegiate match for Nebraska after receiving a grand send-off during Senior Night at the end of the regular season.
Nebraska Volleyball’s Harper Murray Shares What the Huskers Program Has Meant to Rebekah Allick
The Aggies got the best of Nebraska in the regional finals, despite stellar performances from Murray and Allick. They recorded 25 and 15 kills, even forced a fifth set after taking 10 set points, but failed to advance.
After the heartbreaking loss, head coach Dani Busboom Kelly, outside hitter Harper Murray, and team captain and middle blocker Rebekah Allick addressed the media in a postgame press conference. As Allick expressed her desire to be with her parents to process her emotions, Murray paid a heartfelt tribute to her teammate. She shared that Allick had left no stone unturned for Nebraska, playing with her whole heart. She said:
“I just want to say Becca has put her heart and soul into this program, and you can tell by her face how much she cares. And I think, I don’t even care if we win or lose, because what I tried to tell Beck in the locker room is that she’s going to take away the memories and the relationships that we’ve made.”
Murray also consoled Allick by saying that, regardless of wins or losses, she would take the memories with her and leave behind a lasting legacy.
“She’s leaving behind a great legacy and has so much to be proud of. I mean, it’s unbelievable.”
The middle blocker was added to the AVCA National Player of the Year watch list for her strong season but missed earning a spot on the semifinal list.
What’s Next For Nebraska Volleyball’s Graduating Senior Rebekah Allick?
Allick, who has been hitting an average of .437 per game, played her final career match and is now likely to pursue a career as a craftsman. While most players turn professional after their collegiate experience, Nebraska volleyball’s middle blocker revealed that she has always been passionate about building things, whether as a rancher or a carpenter.
She also shared that her sister, Hannah, who plays Division II volleyball, shares the same passion — something they grew up with.
Allick was named All‑Big Ten First Team for the first time in her career and also earned AVCA National Player of the Week and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.
