Nebraska Volleyball’s Rebekah Allick shared how she felt when her twin, Hannah, couldn’t join her in the Huskers program, despite being a promising player. The latter has been a player at the Missouri Southern State University, competing in Division II.
The Husker middle blocker and her team are continuing their National title chase and are on track to achieve a unique record that Nebraska set 25 years ago.
Nebraska Volleyball’s Rebekah Allick Makes Her Feelings Known About Her Twin Missing Division I Opportunities
Allick and her twin sister have been athletically forward since their younger days. They inherited the sporting abilities from their mother, Colleen Ziegelbein, who played basketball at Northwest Missouri State University from 1988 to 1991 and served as a physical education teacher at Lincoln Public Schools.
The Allick twins enjoyed stellar high school careers, moving from North Star to Waverly High School. But when it came to entering college, only the 6-foot-4 middle blocker made it through, and couldn’t be the next twins after Amber and Kadie Rolfzen, who played at the 2015 National Championships.
Reflecting on being pulled away from her sister, Allick shared that she was heartbroken as Hannah had Division I player qualities. However, she expressed that she was happy to have signed with the big gun. The Husker senior said:
“It kind of hurt my heart because I feel like she had the motor of a Division I player, but at the end of the day, it comes down to how you feel about yourself.”

Allick earned Class A all-state honorable mention in her freshman and sophomore years. She also played at the 2022 Pan American Cup with the U.S. U21 National Team, the same year she enrolled at Nebraska in the spring.
In Nebraska, she earned the AVCA First Serve Showcase MVP and the AVCA First Serve Showcase Best Middle Blocker honors in 2024, among others. At this year’s Senior Night before the 2025 NCAA Tournament rounds, she and her fellow seniors received a farewell in the presence of their family and fans.
Allick and her fellow middle blocker Andi Jackson recorded 10 kills each in the NCAA Tournament first round, helping the team secure a dominant win over the Long Island Sharks. In a post-match press conference, she spoke about the top-ranked squad’s mindset of treating every college program as a threat, regardless of the opponent’s win streak or ranking when they step on the court.
The 21-year-old also stated that their volleyball coach, Dani Busboom Kelly, had made the same point. In the NCAA second round, Nebraska Volleyball emerged victorious after defeating Kansas State and will next face Kansas in the Sweet 16 on Dec. 12.
