Freshman Teraya Sigler Opens Up on ‘Selfless’ Culture Behind Nebraska Volleyball Success

Nebraska Volleyball freshman Teraya Sigler lauds the quality of the players on the roster following Illinois clean sweep.

One major factor behind Nebraska Volleyball’s success this season has been the overall contributions of the players, whether they are in the starting lineup or coming off the bench. Freshman Teraya Sigler recently shed light on this issue, explaining the quality that the team possesses off the bench, complemented by the bond they share.

This came just after the Huskers’ 3-0 dominating victory over Illinois, marking their 23rd victory of the season. Andi Jackson, Harper Murray, and Virginia Adriano racked up crucial performances for the Huskers as Laney Choboy dominated in the libero position with 20 digs. Sigler also chipped in with six kills in the game, along with four digs.

Teraya Sigler Has High Praise for the Nebraska Volleyball Culture

In the current season, Nebraska has found itself in a position where it has two quality players for almost every position on the court. For instance, in the hitter position, Murray leads the team’s charge. Still, players like Adriano have complemented Murray quite well, or in the libero position, where two experienced players, Olivia Mauch and Choboy, constantly swap their roles but still root for each other.

Sigler, in her recent conversation, referred to it as a strength for the team, stating, “I just think that Bergen (Reilly) said it before, like when we play in practice, like six on six, we’re playing the two best teams in the country.”

Sigler further opened up about the quality of the roster and the selflessness the players share. “Whether you’re a starter regularly or not, I think that everyone has an opportunity to go in, and I think what’s different about our team is that we’re very selfless, like we go in and there’s no drop off like whether you’re a freshman or a senior, you have the same Nebraska standard for everyone,” Sigler added.

In the conversation, Sigler also mentioned the trust and belief that the players have in each other, irrespective of their seniority and experience.

Sigler Reveals Why She Chose Nebraska for Her Collegiate Career

Sigler was one of the top prospects during her recruiting year, with tremendous success in her high school career and club volleyball stint with Arizona Storm. Moreover, the Scottsdale native was also a part of the NORCECA gold medal-winning US U21 team last year. Despite these successes, Sigler had only one aspiration: to play for the Huskers.

In an interview, Sigler lauded the support that the Nebraska community shows to the players while explaining her reason for coming to the team. She said, “I think that one thing that makes Nebraska stand out is that the support from the community is such a big thing. I think for me what really stood out is that’s the best of the best, it’s like this is where champions train.”

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will next face Minnesota on Nov. 08 in an away contest at the Maturi Pavilion. The game is scheduled to start around 2:30 p.m. CST.
