African record holder Ferdinand Omanyala reacts as Letsile Tebogo offers to teach iShowSpeed ahead of Kenya showdown.

Olympian and African record holder Ferdinand Omanyala has a message for Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo. The 200m African record holder recently offered to train popular YouTuber Darren Jason Watkins Jr., also known as IShowSpeed, for a friendly against the Kenyan sprinter.

IShowSpeed will be touring Africa under the campaign named ‘Speed Tours Africa.’ The 20-year-old content creator will be meeting prominent celebrities all over the continent, including Omanyala.

Omanyala Asks Letsile Tebogo To Train IShowSpeed Well For Friendly

Omanyala reacted warmly to the upcoming contest, as well as Tebogo’s offer to train the content creator for the upcoming contest. The African sprinter dropped a three-word reaction to the video on his X account [formerly Twitter]. He wrote in the caption, “@tebogo_letsile_ train him well”

For the uninitiated, Omanyala is a Commonwealth champion in the men’s 100m, who also won gold medals at the 2022 African Championships. He holds the African record of 9.77 seconds in the men’s 100m, and had qualified for the semifinals of the event in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

On the other hand, Tebogo specializes in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and the relay events. Tebogo created an African record in the men’s 200m finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning Botswana’s first-ever Olympic gold medal.

Tebogo experienced a roller coaster ride in the 2025 season. Everyone expected the 22-year-old sprinter to nail it in the track and field season, and the African sprinter did live up to the expectations.

The African sprinting sensation won his first major event at home with a gold medal in the 200m event at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix. However, he finished seventh in the 100m event at the Diamond League meet in Xiamen, China.

Nevertheless, Tebogo continued to earn laurels for Botswana in multiple events, including the Diamond League meets. However, in the Diamond League finals, the Olympic champion was edged out by Noah Lyles, who won the 200m title after three long years.

Tebogo had a rough time at the Tokyo World Championships. He was disqualified in the 100m finals and missed out on a podium finish by a whisker in the 200m finals, despite setting a new African record with a time of 19.65 seconds.

The 22-year-old ended the campaign on a sweet note, however, when Botswana clocked 2:57.76 minutes to win the men’s 4x400m relay gold medal.
