After Years at the Top, U.S. Ice Dancer Evan Bates Says the Olympic Dream Still Means Everything

American ice dancer Evan Bates couldn't contain his excitement as he and his partner, Madison Chock, look to compete at the Milan Olympics next year.

With the Milan Olympics fast approaching, American ice dancer Evan Bates is brimming with anticipation as he prepares for a remarkable fifth Olympic appearance. Renowned for his dynamic partnership with Madison Chock, now his wife, Bates has dazzled fans this season. Together, they clinched gold at both the Cup of China and the ISU Grand Prix Final in Japan, fueling their momentum as the Games draw near.

Evan Bates Sends Strong Message Ahead Of Milan Olympics

Bates and Chock began their partnership in 2011, following Bates’ split from Emily Samuelson and Chock from Greg Zuerlein.

Bates first stepped onto Olympic ice at the 2010 Vancouver Games, finishing 11th in ice dance with Emily Samuelson. His journey with Chock began at the 2014 Sochi Games, where they placed 8th. Their perseverance paid off in 2022, when they captured their first Olympic gold together in the figure skating team event at the Beijing Olympics.

In an interview with E! Entertainment, Bates explained how much it means to him and Chock to compete at the Olympics, saying:

“We’re so grateful for the opportunity to represent our country once again at the Olympic Games. It is really what we’ve dreamt up since we were kids, and it’s what we’ve worked really hard for to be in this position. We’re working hard and been putting in the hours and putting in the work, but we’re so grateful for each day and for the opportunity.” he stated.

Bates and Chock began dating in 2017, got engaged in 2022, and eventually got married on June 20th, 2024, in Hawaii. This will be their first Olympics together as a married couple, where they aim to add to their single gold medal.

Bates and Chock Discuss Their Relationship With Their Dogs

Stella and Henry, the couple’s beloved toy poodles, are constant companions, joining Bates and Chock at the gym, the rink, and even yoga sessions. These furry friends offer unwavering emotional support, and Bates shared just how much their presence means to the pair in a recent interview with E! Entertainment.

Bates said, “I think there’s just something so comfortable and wonderful about having our dogs with us all the time. We value that companionship so much in our lives. It’s so important to us to have a balance between and sport, and they’re just such a huge part of our lives that we couldn’t imagine not bringing to the rink every day.” he said.

Bates and Chock are set to compete next at the U.S Championships, which will be held from January 4-11 in St. Louis, Missouri, where they will look to seal their spot at the Milan Games.
