Eileen Gu made a surprise announcement as the snow sports season approaches its final phase, catching the attention of fans and the wider winter sports community. After an intense Olympic campaign, there has been growing curiosity around her next move and whether she would continue competing.

Her latest update has only added to the intrigue, hinting that her season may not be over just yet.

Eileen Gu once again proved her class on the biggest stage during the 2026 Winter Olympics, delivering a standout performance in freestyle skiing. She secured the gold medal in her event with a composed, high-scoring run, further cementing her reputation as one of the sport’s brightest stars.

China’s Fanghui Li finished with the silver medal, while Great Britain’s Zoe Atkin claimed bronze, rounding out a highly competitive podium.

Following the Olympics, Gu did not compete in any events, choosing to step away from competition in the immediate aftermath of the Games. The Olympic gold medalist went on to make multiple media appearances and fulfill her brand commitments, staying active off the slopes.

In a surprising turn, the Olympic gold medalist took to Instagram to share an unexpected update just as questions around her season continued to grow. After staying away from competitions post-Olympics, she revealed that she would return to compete in the Snow League, catching fans off guard.

Sharing her plans on her official Instagram account, she wrote: “Decided Last moment that I did not want my season to be over just yet, anyways… hey babe @thesnowleague.”

The Snow League, founded by Shaun White in March 2025, is a professional winter sports circuit designed to bring structure to snowboard and freeski competitions. Gu competed earlier in the season at the league’s China event from December 4, 2025, where freeskiing made its debut, winning the event in her first appearance.
The official draw confirmed that Gu will compete as the top seed, facing Dillan Glennie in the quarterfinals of the women’s freeski bracket.
Other contenders in the field include Rachael Karker, Zoe Atkin, Amy Fraser, Hanna Faulhaber, Svea Irving, and Mischa Thomas, setting up a highly competitive lineup for the finale. 
The Snow League finale will take place in Laax, Switzerland, from March 19–21, 2026, featuring three days of elite halfpipe action.
