After years of pushing boundaries on the slopes, Eileen Gu took a moment to reflect on her career as a skier so far. Eileen Gu Reflects on Her Winter Olympics 2026 Journey in Heartfelt Message

At the 2026 Winter Olympics, Gu rose to the occasion once again, delivering composed and technically sharp performances against a stacked field. She went on to win two silver and one gold medal at the Milano-Cortina Games.

Beyond the medals, her presence commanded global attention and highlighted her lasting impact on the sport. In an emotional Instagram post on Monday, Gu pulled back the curtain on her journey, reflecting on the evolution of skiing culture since she first started.

The Olympic gold medalist looked back at her high school years, recalling the irony of being the only skier on the team despite attending an all-girls school. She traced her advocacy back to its roots, remembering the first speech she ever gave on the importance of women in sports, and wrote,

“I gave my first speech on women in sports and Title IX when I was 11 years old. I talked about being the only girl on my ski team, and, despite attending an all-girls’ school from Monday through Friday, becoming best friends with my teammates on the weekends through the common language of sport. At the same time, I was made painfully aware of the lack of representation at age 9, I felt that I was somehow representing all women every time I stepped in the terrain park.”

The Chinese-American freestyle skier shared that the Beijing Olympics in 2022 were a turning point in her career, as they gave her the opportunity to reach millions of people and, more importantly, to light a spark for the next generation of girls, encouraging them to step onto the field or the slopes with genuine self-assurance.

“Skiing for Team China meant the opportunity to uplift others through the universal culture of sport, and to introduce freeskiing to hundreds of millions of people who had never heard of it, especially with the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics around the corner.”

The 22-year-old expressed her elation at witnessing her dream about the rise in women’s sports coming true in real time. After two successive Winter Olympic appearances and 9 medals under her belt, Gu thanked her fans for their support and hoped to continue her pursuits towards greatness while inspiring the next generation of athletes.
