ESPN Analyst Fuels Possibility of Odell Beckham Jr.’s Reunion With New York Giants

Analyst Peter Schrager says an Odell Beckham Jr. reunion is very much in play to give the New York Giants a veteran playmaker.

Odell Beckham Jr. is actively considering a return to East Rutherford. A potential reunion between the veteran wide receiver and the franchise that drafted him is gaining genuine traction in league circles. The New York Giants still have a glaring need for playmaking experience, and the 33-year-old is hunting for the right landing spot to continue his career.

The Case for an Odell Beckham Jr. Reunion With the Giants

Beckham’s initial run with the Giants established him as one of the most electric offensive weapons in football. From 2014 to 2018, he terrorized opposing secondaries, racking up 390 receptions for 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns across 59 games. He averaged a massive 92.8 receiving yards per game during his five seasons in New York.

Trading him to the Cleveland Browns abruptly ended an era that featured three consecutive Pro Bowl nods. Those lingering feelings of regret within the Giants organization seem to be driving the current speculation. NFL analyst Peter Schrager spoke on “The Pat McAfee Show”, claiming the door is wide open for a return, even if the timeline stretches deep into the summer.

“I wouldn’t rule it out. He’ll be asked about it today, Harbaugh. Look, it’s one of those where I said at the league meetings, there’s no timetable from the Giants’ standpoint. They could sit on this until July, August. But Odell wants to come back to football, and he did meet with the Giants while he was there because he lives in Arizona and he was at the league meetings,” Schrager said.

“And Harbaugh did openly say that this is one of his favorite players and people of all time. And I’ve said it before and I will say it again. When I say that ownership and the ownership’s family has a place in their heart for Odell Beckham and one of the regrets is how things ended with Dave Gettleman shipping him off to Cleveland and how that relationship ended is a great regret of that Giants organization. That’s real.

“I believe that a homecoming for Odell Beckham is very much in play and it just might not happen on everyone else’s timetable. Just stay tuned. That’s all I would say.”

Weighing Beckham Jr.’s Fit With Giants Coach John Harbaugh

A New York homecoming offers a compelling narrative, but John Harbaugh hasn’t hidden his admiration for the veteran receiver. The new head coach values seasoned veterans who know how to navigate the postseason.

Beckham played the 2023 season under Harbaugh in Baltimore, where he registered 35 receptions for 565 yards and 3 touchdowns in 14 games. He finished the season ranked 41 according to the PFSN’s NFL Wide Receiver impact.

Beckham brings the exact type of route-running savvy that Harbaugh looks for to stretch the field.

Defenses respect his ability to win at the catch point, which naturally forces safeties to play deeper.
