Nick Chubb is no longer the All-Pro-level running back he once was. Still, he can be a key contributor for teams in need of backfield help.
With training camp approaching, here are two organizations that could pursue the four-time Pro Bowler.
2 Teams That Could Sign Nick Chubb as Training Camps Approach
Cleveland Browns
Browns fans would love nothing more than to see the team reunite with Chubb and allow him to finish his career where it started. After all, Chubb enjoyed his best years in Cleveland, while the team itself, particularly in 2020, had its most successful season in years.
Cleveland’s current running back room is led by 2025 second-round pick Quinshon Judkins, who recorded more than 800 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns as a rookie. The group also includes 2025 fourth-round pick Dylan Sampson, as well as undrafted free agents Raheim Sanders and Ahmani Marshall.
While the unit is far from the Browns’ biggest issue, it shouldn’t necessarily be left alone, either. This past season, Cleveland’s rushing attack ranked sixth-worst in rushing yards, fifth-worst in yards per carry, and recorded the eighth-fewest rushing touchdowns with 10.
The Browns also ranked 25th in red-zone touchdown rate at 52.6% and 30th in fourth-down conversion rate at 41.4%. Chubb, who stands nearly 230 pounds and has scored 59 career touchdowns, could fill that short-yardage bruiser, goal-line role for the Browns.

Entering his age-30 season, Chubb won’t be asked to carry the backfield, but he’d still have a meaningful role for the team that drafted him eight years ago.
Indianapolis Colts
Nick Chubb spent his eighth NFL season as a member of the Houston Texans. Heading into year nine, joining another AFC South contender in the Indianapolis Colts makes plenty of sense, assuming the team has interest.
Of course, Jonathan Taylor, PFSN’s No. 1-ranked running back in 2025, remains the unquestioned lead back. The depth behind him, however, is questionable.

2025 fifth-round pick DJ Giddens is currently listed as the RB2, while 2026 seventh-round selection Seth McGowan and undrafted free agent Ulysses Bentley IV round out the group. The group behind Taylor has just 27 combined career carries, again, creating plenty of uncertainty behind him.
It’s rarely a bad idea to add a proven veteran to a running back room, and the Colts could bring Chubb in at a relatively affordable price. After signing a one-year, $2.5 million contract with Houston last offseason, he should command a similar deal on the open market one year later.
With quarterback Daniel Jones coming off a torn Achilles, the Colts will likely ease him back into action throughout training camp and potentially into the early stages of the regular season. As a result, Indianapolis’ offense may need to rely heavily on Taylor and its rushing attack.
Chubb would be a strong complement to the backfield while helping the unit regain the form it showed during the first half of 2025.
