‘It Won’t Stop The Rumors’ — NHL World Reacts as Brady Tkachuk Makes Plans Clear After Senators’ Disastrous Playoffs

Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk appears to be set on staying put despite being swept in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Carolina Hurricanes.

After losing in the first round for the second-straight season, rumors are swirling regarding Tkachuk and his longevity with the club. Despite their inability to advance, Ottawa’s captain still looks to be focused on winning, specifically with the Senators.

Brady Tkachuk Addresses Rumors Amid Intense Speculation

On Tuesday, the 2026 Winter Olympics Gold Medalist answered questions from the media.

When asked about the discourse surrounding his future in Ottawa, Tkachuk gave an honest, frustrated response.

“I feel like I’ve answered this hundreds of times,” said Tkachuk. “I’ve never said none of those things ever came out of my mouth. Quite honestly it’s just getting frustrating, it’s becoming a distraction. I have been fully committed to this team, to this city, and it’s becoming a distraction, frustrating to deal with.”

Tkachuk’s contract expires in the 2027-28 season, meaning a trade would be necessary to push him out of Canada’s capital. The 26-year-old also mentioned he has yet to speak with Steve [Staois], the club’s general manager. However, the agitated response may indicate the Senators star is going nowhere.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Tkachuk’s future, his emphatic response has sparked a flurry of social media reactions.

One X user supported Tkachuk’s claims, saying, “Overall takeaway of Brady Tkachuk’s availability: he hit all the right notes and didn’t leave anything ambiguous that could be construed as in wanting to leave. It won’t stop the rumors but it might tamp it down. For now.”

Another Ottawa fan enjoyed the Boston University product’s answer, claiming the majority of the rumors are “speculative nonsense.”

“That’s my Tkaptain. Love that he went out of the way to set the record straight by meeting with the media today,” wrote Sens Talk on X. “Remember, not ONE reporter has put their reputation on the line by reporting that he actually wants to leave. It’s nothing more than speculative nonsense.”

Earlier this week, the Senators held their media availability, at which Tkachuk was unable to attend due to the birth of his second child. SensCentral took to X, describing their pleasure in Tkachuk simply being present amid everything going on in the star winger’s life.

“Brady goes out of his way at the end of his presser to thank the fans,” said SensCentral X account. “Impressed to see him back facing the media only days after having a kid. Good leadership.”

Tkachuk is not the only member of the Canadian hockey market rumored to be on the move. Toronto Maple Leafs’ captain Auston Matthews has also been in the news recently, especially since he and the club were unable to reach the 2026 postseason.

Regardless of the speculation, this X user believes both players will be staying with their respective teams.

“Hockey fans want to believe there will be excitement and big names are moving,” wrote X user Edna Garrett. “No one is. Matthews is staying in Toronto as well.”

Is Ottawa’s shocking first-round sweep enough to push their captain out, or is Tkachuk honest when describing it as speculative distractions?
