The Carolina Hurricanes are at home tonight with the Washington Capitals in Lenovo Center, Raleigh, hoping to take a commanding 3-1 lead in their second-round playoff meetings.
The Hurricanes also won Game 3, 4-0, getting 21 stops from goaltender Frederik Andersen, who logged his first playoff shutout with Carolina. Jack Roslovic added a goal and an assist, adding impetus to the Hurricanes’ offense. By Jaccob Slavin and Brent Burns, Carolina handled defense and defused Washington’s scoring opportunities.
Having gone behind 2-1 in the series, the Capitals are out to bounce back. They have been resilient in the playoffs, however, being 2-0 after a loss. Captain Alex Ovechkin is one who, in a scoring slump, will be instrumental in turning the Washington offense back on. The Capitals need to get the most out of goaltender Logan Thompson, who conceded four last time out, to remain competitive.

Key Matchups
Goaltending Duel: Frederik Andersen vs. Logan Thompson. Andersen’s recent shutout performance sets a high bar, while Thompson seeks to rebound from a challenging Game 3.
Top Scorers: Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov lead Carolina’s offense, while Alex Ovechkin aims to end his scoring drought and boost Washington’s attack.
Special Teams: Both teams will look to capitalize on power-play opportunities, making discipline and penalty killing crucial factors.
Prediction
Ahead of Game 4, the Carolina Hurricanes lead the series 2-1, with all the momentum having blown them out in Game 3 on home ice. Their organized forecheck and deep scoring have bullied the Capitals, and Pyotr Kochetkov is still calm in the pipes.
The Washington Capitals are, however, dangerous. Experienced leaders such as Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson are being relied upon to help create early offense and to help establish a physical tone. If the Caps are hoping to avoid heading into a 3-1 hole, goaltender Charlie Lindgren will have to rebound strongly.
Game 4 will be looking tighter and more disciplined. When Washington can cash in on the power play and generate a few turnovers, they have the resources to even the series. But if the Hurricanes can continue to ride the dominant possession and win the special teams battle, they could widen their lead upon returning to D.C.
