The Vegas Golden Knights made one of the biggest moves of the 2025 NHL offseason when they signed Mitch Marner to an eight-year, $96 million deal. The contract has an average value of $12 million per year. With 102 points during the regular season, Marner’s high price tag made sense.
Trade rumors suggest the Golden Knights aren’t done making big moves yet. Vegas wants to add more talent to their roster. With one more spot left to fill their squad, the team is still active in the trade market. If the rumors are true, another big trade could happen soon.
Vegas Golden Knights Are Hinted To Go After Bowen Byram, According to Reports
Bowen Byram signed a two-year, $7.7 million deal with an average yearly value of $3.85 million. The defenseman will become a restricted free agent after the 2024-25 season. Teams around the league have shown strong interest in the young player.
TSN’s Darren Dreger reports that four teams are the most likely spots for Byram’s next move. Those teams are the Golden Knights, the LA Kings, the Calgary Flames, and the St. Louis Blues.
According to Dreger, “Darren Dreger: LA really liked the idea of Bowen Byram; right now all of the pressure is on GM Kevyn Adams; Calgary for sure is interested; Vegas might not be done — Barn Burner.” GM Kevyn Adams has already said the Sabres are willing to match any offer sheet.

Adams doesn’t want to let Byram leave Buffalo. He has mentioned, “We believe Bo is an excellent hockey player who can help our team win.” Adams knows the Sabres need help, and a good trade might give them a better chance at making the playoffs.
“But … if there is a deal out there that makes sense for us, that is going to improve our roster, we’re open to it. But we’re not in a situation where we’re looking to move him out or move him for futures,” Adams said.
The teams that want Byram also need to think about their salary cap space. The Blues are projected to be over the cap limit with negative $2.5 million in space. This makes it harder for them to add new players without making other moves first.
Vegas has faced questions about tampering in the Marner deal. Another big trade might cause the NHL to start an investigation. Meanwhile, the Flames appear to have more cap room to work with, which could make them a stronger option for Byram.
Vegas has an advantage because players don’t pay state taxes there. GM Kelly McCrimmon is known for making last-minute trades that surprise people. These factors could still help Vegas land Byram despite their cap issues.
Byram has scored 110 points in 246 regular-season games during his career. He has been one of the few bright spots on Buffalo’s struggling team. Vegas needs help on defense, and Byram would give them a player who can play both ends of the ice. His ability to help during offensive rushes would also boost their attack.
