The Edmonton Oilers are heading into a pivotal offseason after a shocking first-round playoff exit against the Anaheim Ducks. With expectations higher than ever and the Stanley Cup window still open, pressure is mounting on general manager Stan Bowman to make meaningful changes to the roster ahead of the 2026-27 season.
One player linked to the Oilers continues to generate trade buzz, with questions about his future growing by the day.
Oilers Target Back in Trade Spotlight
The player at the center of the speculation is St. Louis Blues forward Jordan Kyrou, who still has four years left on his eight-year, $65 million contract.
After posting back-to-back 30-goal campaigns, the 28-year-old managed just 18 goals and 46 points in 72 games under head coach Jim Montgomery. At one point, he was even a healthy scratch.
That decline has fueled growing speculation that his time with the Blues could be coming to an end.
NHL insider John Buccigross recently shared his belief that a move is likely. “Jordan Kyrou in my mind is gone; there’s no chance he’s a Blue opening night,” Buccigross said. “That’s my opinion.”
While that’s only Buccigross’ view, it reflects the growing sense around the league that Kyrou could be one of the bigger names available this summer.
From Edmonton’s perspective, the fit is easy to see. The Oilers are searching for more scoring depth behind Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, and Kyrou’s speed and offensive upside could make him an attractive addition to the top six.
However, acquiring him would be far from simple.
The biggest obstacle is his contract. Kyrou carries an $8.125 million cap hit through the 2030-31 season, meaning Edmonton would likely have to send significant salary back to St. Louis to make the finances work.
There’s also the matter of his full no-trade clause. Kyrou would need to approve any deal and waive his protection before a trade could happen. Edmonton’s status as a Stanley Cup contender could make it an appealing destination, but the final decision would be his.

The trade cost would also be significantly high. St. Louis is unlikely to move Kyrou without getting a strong return, likely including top prospect Matt Savoie, an NHL player, and valuable draft picks. For an Oilers team that has already traded away plenty of future assets, that’s a steep price to pay.
As the offseason continues, Kyrou will likely remain a name to watch. Whether Edmonton makes a serious move is unknown, but the Oilers are expected to keep tabs on the situation.
