Unfiltered Connor Bedard Doesn’t Hold Back in Stinging Criticism of Blackhawks

Connor Bedard expresses strong dissatisfaction with the Blackhawks' performance after his score falls short to clinch victory against the Kings

After a bottom-finish last season, the Chicago Blackhawks are at a make-or-break spot right now: with four wins, three losses, and ten points, the Blackhawks can either turn the season to their favor right now, or things can go downhill just like last season. After a thumping 3-2 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning on the road, Chicago fell to the Los Angeles Kings at home.

The 3-1 defeat was humbling for Connor Bedard and company, as the Kings cruised past the Blackhawks for an easy victory. Anton Forsberg made 22 saves for Los Angeles and enabled the team’s win after falling to the Nashville Predators in a 5-4 shootout. Following the loss, Bedard went all out to criticize his team and even the Kings.

Connor Bedard Takes Sharp Jab at the Blackhawks and the Kings

Bedard scored a crucial goal against the Kings in the showdown at the United Center, giving the team a 1-0 lead at 7:04 of the first period. Blackhawks goalie Arvid Soderblom made 19 saves, but at the end of the day, Chicago could not save face at home. After the game, the standout forward owned up to the team’s shortcomings, criticizing the Blackhawks’ power play.

“Our power play was terrible tonight, so that didn’t help. I don’t know how many power  plays we had, five or six (the Blackhawks were 0-for-5 on the power play)? I heard [Dickinson] say that kind of takes the momentum out a little bit, and they used that. And then in the second, we were trying to do too much sometimes, maybe. They [Kings] fed off that, and we couldn’t obviously get it back in the third.” Bedard said, as reported by NHL independent correspondent Bruce Miles.

However, Bedard was equally critical of the opponent’s game. Sure, the Kings won, but the 20-year-old bluntly stated that the Kings’ game was uninteresting. “They play really boring. It’s not like a dig or anything. They sit back a lot and make it hard to get zone entries.”

Although the standout center quickly clarified that he was far from snarky in his take about the Kings, the comment is bound to sting, mainly because it came from one of the NHL’s generational talents.

Even though Bedard’s comments may seem a bit insulting, many would appreciate the rawness of his sentiments. However, the Kings’ strategy can safely be said to have worked phenomenally for the team. They could play “boring,” but Los Angeles is ranked third in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference, implying that their game suits their needs.

When it comes to the Blackhawks, the team can build up on Bedard’s advice and focus on bettering its power play for the coming games.
