‘A Little Busy’ — Stanley Cup-Winning Carolina Hurricanes Clown The Hell Out of Golden Knights HC John Tortorella

The Carolina Hurricanes completed a remarkable postseason by bringing the Stanley Cup back to the franchise for the first time in 20 years. Their championship run featured timely scoring, disciplined defense, and strong goaltending when it mattered most.

The victory also closed the book on a hard-fought Final against Vegas, a series that included plenty of confidence from the opposing bench. Once the Cup was secured, Carolina made sure one particular comment from Vegas bench boss John Tortorella was not forgotten.

Hurricanes Troll John Tortorella After Stanley Cup-Clinching Win Over Golden Knights

John Tortorella’s confidence ahead of Game 6 became a talking point again shortly after the Carolina Hurricanes captured the Stanley Cup.

Before the elimination game, Tortorella told NHL reporter Ryan Henkel, “I’m going to leave my clothes here. At the hotel. We’ll be back.” The Vegas head coach was expressing his belief that the Golden Knights would force a Game 7 and return to Raleigh for another chance at the championship.

Instead, Carolina ensured there would be no return trip.

The Hurricanes defeated Vegas 3-0 at T-Mobile Arena on Sunday, closing out the series in six games and claiming the second Stanley Cup in franchise history. After the final horn sounded, Carolina’s social media team revisited Tortorella’s prediction with a response that quickly gained attention across the hockey world.

Replying directly to the earlier comment, the Hurricanes’ X account wrote, “We’ll send them to you. Might take a few days, though. A little busy.”

The post landed because of how decisively Carolina finished the series. After splitting the first four games, the Hurricanes seized control with victories in Games 5 and 6. Their defensive structure limited Vegas’ scoring chances, while Brandon Bussi delivered a perfect performance in the championship-clinching game, stopping all 22 shots he faced.

Carolina received goals from Taylor Hall, Jackson Blake, and Nikolaj Ehlers in Game 6. The group also reinforced the defensive identity that carried it through much of the postseason. Vegas struggled to generate offense late in the series and failed to score a goal in the final game despite desperately searching for a breakthrough.

The turning point of the Final arguably came earlier in the series when Rod Brind’Amour inserted Bussi during Game 3. Although Carolina eventually lost that game in double overtime, the move helped spark a turnaround that carried through the remainder of the matchup.

Jordan Staal’s leadership was another major factor.

The Hurricanes’ captain earned the Conn Smythe Trophy after an outstanding postseason and helped guide Carolina to a dominant 16-3 playoff record. His performance capped a historic year that also saw him set an NHL record for the longest gap between Stanley Cup championships.

For Brind’Amour, the victory carried a different meaning than the one he experienced as a player in 2006.

Reflecting on the achievement, he said, “It’s just as awesome, but as a player, it was a little different because I worked and dreamt of winning the Cup my whole life, so that was like a piano came off my back. This time around, I wanted it for the group. I wanted them to feel what it’s like.”

Meanwhile, Tortorella’s future remains uncertain. His short-term agreement with Vegas expires at the end of June, and when asked about what comes next following the loss, he offered a brief response: “I have to swallow this first.”

The Hurricanes, however, had no such concerns. They left Las Vegas with the Stanley Cup and, thanks to one well-timed social media post, the final word as well.
