Penguins Insider Josh Yohe Believes Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Career is Far From Over

Pittsburgh Penguins insider Josh Yohe reports that Sidney Crosby is unlikely to retire after his current contract expires next season.

After years of being ruled out by many, the Pittsburgh Penguins have made the most unbelievable comeback this season and have consistently overcome a particularly rough stretch in December to stay in contention for a deep postseason run. Moreover, as explained by a Penguins insider, the team’s phenomenal form might be more than a mere stroke of luck and might just give Sidney Crosby another reason to stick around a little longer.

Sidney Crosby Might Extend His Stay With the Pittsburgh Penguins Amid a Glorious 2025-26 Campaign

Before the season commenced, the Penguins were believed to have already peaked and had nothing more to offer. The hope of a Pens revival was flimsy, and during the past offseason, trade rumors swirled around key players like Rickard Rakell, Bryan Rust, and even the once-untouchable Crosby.

However, once the season began, Pittsburgh turned the narrative surrounding the team on its head. Despite occasional slumps, the Penguins have remained steadfast on their path to the playoffs, clinging to the upper rungs of the standings. The team currently has 83 points, second in the Metropolitan Division standings behind the Carolina Hurricanes.

What’s more, Penguins insider Josh Yohe explained that the team’s addition of crucial young assets has benefited it greatly.

Credit to Kyle Dubas where it is due, and while we still do not know if he will be honored with the Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award, we can certainly say that he is a deserving candidate. Dubas’ well-thought-out roster decisions have played an indelible role in the Penguins’ shocking resurgence.

Ben Kindel, Arturs Silovs, and Egor Chinakhov are among the young players who have made a tremendous impact recently. Yohe further highlighted the massive pile of draft picks the Penguins have at the moment, which shall enable Dubas to add more young talent to the lineup.

“At the same time, they’re winning and are sitting on an enormous amount of money to spend this summer. The Penguins believe they are well set up for the future and will continue to add young talent in the next few drafts, given their considerable stockpile of picks,” Yohe explained.

About Crosby, he said, “Given how good this team could become in the next few years, there is a belief within the organization that Sidney Crosby might stick around for a while. He’s been in a noticeably good mood all season, presumably because the Penguins are winning, which is all he wants.”

Another successful season might even keep Crosby around longer. Crosby, who is halfway through his $17.4 million contract, has enough reason to extend his stay at Pittsburgh. “He’s [Crosby] loving this team. One year is left on his contract, but I’ve yet to speak with anyone close to Crosby who thinks next season will be his last in the NHL,” Yohe said.

Crosby will provide leadership to a young team that is confident and works together to restore the Penguins’ glory.
