The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina are getting closer, and hockey fans are excited as teams finalize their rosters. NHL players are returning to the Olympic ice for the first time since 2014, making each selection important.
Early chatter about potential lineups has fans debating every move, while delays in arena construction have added some concern. Organizers are working to ensure the facilities are ready before February. Among all the teams, Team Canada’s roster has received the most attention, with leaks and speculation keeping fans engaged.
Fans React to Leaked Team Canada Olympics Roster
The conversation heated up when Reddit users spotted Fanatics Canada listings for 2026 Olympic memorabilia for Nick Suzuki, Mitch Marner, and Brad Marchand, even though none had been officially announced. r/hockey shared the discovery, noting that some listings may have been removed due to an error.
ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski amplified the news on X, pointing out that the leak suggested players who weren’t confirmed yet. Fans responded quickly online, especially about Suzuki.
“Glad Team Canada isn’t listening to Habs fans and has decided to name Suzuki to the team,” one fan wrote, showing approval for his selection. “Suzuki-the only surprise,” another fan commented, reflecting a similar sentiment about the unexpected pick.
Not everyone was pleased with the potential roster. Some questioned Marner’s inclusion. “Marner?! Why tho…” a fan commented, showing skepticism about the right winger. Another fan speculated, “Suzuki? Yikes. Next you’re going to tell me Stone is making the team,” referring to veteran Mark Stone. The reactions resulted in both excitement and debate while fans wait for official announcements.

Meanwhile, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman addressed concerns over the rink construction delays. Speaking in early December at the Winnipeg Jets facility, he said, “I’m not trying to pile on; in all of the prior Olympics, whether they built permanent or temporary facilities, it’s never been this late for a completion in the building of ice, and so that’s why we are cautious.”
Despite these issues, the men’s Olympic hockey tournament will start Feb. 11, with Team Canada opening against Czechia, then facing Switzerland and France in preliminary games.
