The Edmonton Oilers have been on a strong run, winning six of their last eight. That stretch has lifted them into third place in the Pacific Division with a 17-12-6 record, a noticeable shift from earlier this month when they were near the bottom of the standings.
They’re coming off a 3-1 win over the Boston Bruins on Thursday, but the victory was tempered by concern after newly acquired goaltender Tristan Jarry went down with an injury, quickly becoming the main focus for fans.
Oilers’ Tristan Jarry Injured in Win Over Bruins
Jarry was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins last week in a deal that sent goaltender Stuart Skinner the other way. Thursday’s game marked just his third start with Edmonton, and he had won all three of his outings with his new team.
Late in the second period against Boston, Jarry left the game with a lower-body injury. Calvin Pickard came in relief. After the game, there was no immediate update on Jarry’s status. Head coach Kris Knoblauch told reporters he had “no updates.”
Fans wasted no time reacting on social media. One joked, “The paint’s not even dry on his new bucket yet,” highlighting how quickly Jarry found himself sidelined after joining the Oilers.
Others were far less surprised. A fan wrote, “Lol I’m not sure what Edmonton was expecting. Jarry spends half the season on the injured roster. He was due,” referencing Jarry’s injury history and suggesting this was an unfortunate but predictable outcome.
One fan expressed sympathy for Oilers supporters while acknowledging a known risk. “I’m sorry Oilers fans. This has been one of the issues with Jarry over the last 2 years. No take backs for the pick though,” they commented, pointing to the trade cost.
A few reactions quickly shifted toward solutions and roster management. One fan suggested, “Bring in Connor Ingram,” while sarcastically adding that Edmonton would survive as long as its stars handle heavy minutes in all situations, clearly a tongue-in-cheek take on playoff workload concerns.
One fan simply showed concern, writing, “That sucks for Jarry and the Oilers. Hopefully it’s not a long-term injury,” echoing the sentiment of many hoping for a quick recovery.
There was also no shortage of trade humor. One user joked, “Penguins have Skinner available. Skinner for a 2026 2nd rd pick,” playfully revisiting the recent goalie swap between the two teams.
For now, it remains unclear what exactly Jarry is dealing with or how long he could be sidelined. While the Oilers can call up Ingram, his stint so far hasn’t exactly inspired confidence, though Edmonton does have the option to swing a trade for a backup goalie.
