Amid the chatter surrounding the NHL trade market, the Flyers are taking steps to quell speculation about one of their key right-wingers, who carries a hefty $49.6 million contract. Insider Elliotte Friedman addressed the situation on the “32 Thoughts” Podcast, clarifying the team’s stance.
“Owen Tippett, it has been a name around a lot, and I kind of looked into this one a little bit. I think the Flyers are trying to do everything they can to calm the noise around him. I think it’s bothered him a little bit,” Friedman said.
He added that while the Vancouver Canucks have inquired, a trade is unlikely as Philadelphia believes the player still has untapped potential.
“I do think the Canucks asked about him. I don’t think that’s going to be happening, but I’ve heard that the Flyers believe that there’s another level they can get Owen Tippett, and also, too, for his contract. I think the Flyers see that too,” Friedman said.
He then went on to explain why the team takes such an approach. “I think they’re trying to calm down the noise, simply because this is not created by them. Sometimes names are out there because teams are looking to move guys. This is not the case with Owen Tippett, so we’ll see where that goes,” Friedman added.
Tippett, 26, drafted 10th overall in 2017 by the Florida Panthers, is in his seventh NHL season. This campaign, he has already contributed 18 points over 26 games, balancing nine goals with nine assists and maintaining a plus-minus of +1.
He has been particularly effective in team victories, recording 15 points in 15 wins, highlighting his role as a steady offensive contributor. Recent performances, including a three-point game against New Jersey and a goal versus Buffalo, show his ongoing impact.
