The Toronto Maple Leafs bounced back with a 7-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. But they still sit second-last in the Atlantic Division with an 11–11–3 record.
With the team struggling, rumors have swirled about possible coaching changes, particularly concerning head coach Craig Berube, as the organization looks for ways to get back on track. An NHL insider has now offered some clarity on the situation.
Insider Updates on Maple Leafs’ Coaching Situation
Speaking on “Saturday Headlines,” NHL insider Elliotte Friedman addressed the Maple Leafs’ coaching situation, noting that while the team has explored options, major organizational changes are unlikely in the near term.
He explained, “One thing is the heat got going this week, and I don’t believe that there’s anything imminent in terms of major organizational changes like coach GM, anything like that. I don’t think they’re thinking about it. I don’t think it’s on the horizon.”
Friedman noted that if any major changes were to happen, they would occur further down the road, and he does not believe such a change is on the horizon at all, despite people wondering about it.
He also pointed out that the Leafs have no plans to trade core players. “Well, the thing is that we’ve talked about it. They’re really looking. They’re trying to do things. They don’t want to trade like the Matthews, the Nylander, the Tavares,” Friedman said.

It appears there will be no coaching changes for now, as the Leafs focus on rebounding from their slow start to the season.
Craig Berube on Saturday’s Win
After the victory, coach Berube emphasized the confidence a solid performance can bring. He highlighted improvements in puck possession, playmaking, and team defense.
“It’s confidence. They’re going to feel good about themselves, and that is good. We just have to build off it. We have to keep getting better, though,” Berube said. “There are things we can do better, and we have to keep working on them. It is all part of it.”

Berube commended the team’s defense for efficiently moving the puck and guarding the net, while also acknowledging there are still areas to work on. “We possessed the puck more tonight, which was good,” he said.
Next, the Maple Leafs will face the Florida Panthers on Tuesday.
