The Edmonton Oilers picked up an important 3-1 win over the Nashville Predators on Sunday, but the victory came with a bit of concern after star forward Leon Draisaitl left the game following a hard collision.
The Oilers improved to 33-26-9 and remain third in the Pacific Division, though attention quickly shifted to Draisaitl’s health after the incident.
Leon Draisaitl Injury Update: Early Signs Encouraging
The injury occurred during the first period when Draisaitl was hit by Ozzy Wiesblatt and driven into the boards near the Nashville bench. The impact forced him to leave the ice briefly. He did return for a couple of shifts, but the Oilers star ultimately did not come back for the start of the second period.
Sports injury expert Dr. Harjas Grewal later reviewed the play and offered an early assessment that brought some optimism for Oilers fans. “Wonder if there’s a possible right hip pointer for Draisaitl when he hit the boards. Hockey pants don’t have much padding on the side. Pain is main issue. Likely day-to-day. Some shoulder to shoulder contact so maybe a separated shoulder but don’t really think so,” Grewal explained.
While the exact nature of Leon Draisaitl’s injury is still unclear, early analysis suggests it may not be something serious.
Kris Knoblauch also offered a cautiously optimistic update after the game. “He didn’t feel right. He went off, he got checked out, felt like he could play on it. The medical staff looked at him and they were comfortable with him trying it out. He went out and he just didn’t feel quite right,” Knoblauch said.
“The fact that the medical staff said it doesn’t seem too bad and there’s no immediate red flags, it tells me that it shouldn’t be a really long injury. There might be some time off, but we’ll find out later,” he added.
According to Knoblauch, there may be some time off, but the early signs suggest the injury isn’t expected to keep the Oilers’ star sidelined long term.
Before exiting, Draisaitl still managed to make an impact offensively. He opened the scoring at 3:12 of the first period on the power play, converting a cross-ice pass from Connor McDavid with a wrist shot from the right circle to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead.

The Oilers extended their advantage early in the second when Matt Savoie finished a 2-on-1 rush set up by McDavid, lifting the puck over Justus Annunen to make it 2-0.
Fedor Svechkov pulled the Predators within one early in the third period. However, Zach Hyman sealed the victory with an empty-net goal.
The Oilers will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup when they face the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday, with fans now waiting for further updates on Draisaitl’s condition.
