Author, influencer, and self-described “hockey wife” Lexi LaFleur Brown reacted on social media to US President Donald Trump’s recent Alex Ovechkin gaffe. Lexi, who is married to former NHL player and current Seattle Kraken analyst J.T. Brown, has been a vocal critic of the Trump Administration.
Lexi LaFleur Reacts to Trump Implying Alex Ovechkin is Canadian
Lexi posted a cheeky three-word response on X (formerly Twitter) after reposting a video clip featuring Trump. In the clip, Trump appears to imply that Washington Capitals’ Russian left winger Alex Ovechkin is from Canada.

“Puck bunny” is a pejorative term that some say originated in Canada. It was first used to describe female hockey fans negatively, implying that they were more attracted to the glamor and fame of the players rather than the technical and serious aspects of the sport.
Lexi, who is a strong advocate for women in hockey, apparently has no problem with applying the term to men.
Trump’s slip-up over Ovechkin had come when he addressed the media during a meeting with Canadian PM Mark Carney on Tuesday, May 6.
“…I love Canada,” Trump had said. “I have a lot of respect for the Canadians. Wayne Gretzky, the Great One… You happen to have a very, very good hockey player right here on the Capitals; he is a big, tough cookie too, just broke the record, and he’s a great guy. You know, we had the team here. I got to know a lot of the players. But, no, Canada is a very special place.”
Trump’s statement had drawn a wide variety of responses from hockey fans, with some posting amused reactions while others defended his remarks, claiming the President never explicitly said Ovechkin was from Canada.
Lexi LaFleur Brown Marches in Anti-Trump Protest
In April, Lexi and her children took part in a peaceful protest against the Trump Administration and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The protesters rallied against the budget cuts to government programmes such as Medicare, the Department of Education and national parks.
“Hands off our schools! Hands off our books!” read the signs that Lexi and her kids were carrying.
Lexi, who was born and raised in Canada, also saw her debut novel, “Shoot Your Shot,” hit the bookshelves this March. She had become a popular reviewer of hockey romance novels on TikTok and amassed a dedicated fan following.
“I’ve always been interested in growing the game, making it more accessible and getting more people to fall in love with it, so to find out that people were falling in love with hockey through these books was really interesting and exciting,” Lexi said via ellecanada.com.
