Did Evander Kane Fall Victim to a Vicious Assault 1 Week After Canucks Trade? Fact-Checking Viral Rumors

While rumors have been rampant across media about Evander Kane getting assaulted, there doesn't appear to be any official statement yet.

The fans of the Vancouver Canucks had been in high spirits lately, as one of the city’s own, Evander Kane, was traded by the Edmonton Oilers. But the celebratory mood didn’t last for long.

Multiple sources across social media reported that Kane was jumped on Saturday, June 28, and was assaulted. For fans of the Canucks, this was a disappointing start to the veteran’s much-awaited return to his hometown. Some even reported that Kane needed medical attention.

But since the rumors went viral, there hasn’t been any official confirmation or update from Kane or the Canucks. So, did the supposed attack really happen?

Fact-Checking Speculation on Evander Kane Being Assaulted

The report on Kane’s assault first came from the X account of the ‘2 Mutts Hockey Podcast,’ who tweeted, “Evander Kane was jumped in Vancouver last night & he needed medical attention. He’s doing fine, which is great to hear.”

The account further mentioned how a video will be released. The tweet continued with, “A video of the incident will be released to show that Kane did nothing wrong. His friends were being held back. Kane was minding his own business, & out of nowhere, he was attacked. Be better, Vancouver. #Canucks”

However, as of now, no official statement has been issued by either Kane or the Canucks. Kevin Charach of CTV News mentioned on June 30 that there has been no official report on the matter from the Vancouver Police Department either.

He tweeted a statement from Vancouver PD: “We don’t have any reports of an assault at Pierre’s or anything involving any member of the Vancouver Canucks. This appears to have originated with anonymous social media accounts.”

Social media accounts across X have speculated about how and why the supposed attack occurred, but as of now, no official verdict has been reached. The primary factor is the lack of video evidence of the attack.

Many have even hinted that this is a result of enmity stemming from Kane’s recent trade from the Oilers to the Canucks, with some fans being unhappy with the entire situation. Meanwhile, other sources are quick to dismiss this as another publicity stunt by the ‘2 Mutts Hockey Podcast.’

Some have speculated that the bar where Kane was attacked, Pierre’s Champagne Lounge, is frequented by gangsters, and thus Kane, or anyone else who was involved in the incident, wouldn’t be reporting it to the PD.

But this, too, remains speculation. As of now, with no video proof and no official statements from any of the concerned parties, it is unclear whether this is a publicity stunt or an attempt to capitalize on social media interaction by various anonymous accounts.

Either way, there doesn’t seem to be any truth to these rumors.
