‘There’s More Pressure’ – Connor McDavid’s Wife Lauren Ups Ante for Oilers Ahead of Game 6 in Stanley Cup Final

With Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final taking place on June 17, Connor McDavid's wife gets real about the pressure of being a hockey player's wife.

Game 6 of the 2025 Stanley Cup Final is coming up on Tuesday, June 17. With the Edmonton Oilers trailing 2-3, they stand one loss away from losing their second straight Cup final. With such immense pressure, it is no wonder that every Oilers player is right on the edge.

This includes team captain Connor McDavid. McDavid probably remembers seeing his Oilers team lose in last year’s Game 7. Edmonton has been poor on defense, and their offensive attack plans haven’t been able to crack the Florida Panthers’ defense.

McDavid has been clinical, so far, when it comes to scoring and assists. Still, his own efforts haven’t been enough to overpower Florida. Even McDavid’s wife, Lauren Kyle McDavid, knows he’s under pressure as well.

All You Need To Know About Connor McDavid’s Wife Lauren Kyle

A fashion designer and bar owner, Lauren Kyle has known Connor since the two were teenagers. Lauren’s brothers also played hockey when they were younger, though she was always interested in art and photography. She, though, knows what her husband faces in Game 6.

Getting back to the Stanley Cup Final, she said, “Now we’re in the same position we were in last year, so there’s more pressure around it. At that same time, we’ve been here before … and we know what to do and we’re prepared for this.

“People assume that it’s easy,” Lauren said. “Our husbands are playing hockey, making money. But it’s actually very difficult. There’s a lot of stress. There is such a strain on your family.”

But Lauren isn’t one to let it affect her. She tries to remain positive. “People don’t know about the struggles that are on the inside …,” Lauren said. “I just quiet that noise, because there’s a lot more positivity than negativity out there.”

Lauren someone unfamiliar with the life of hockey players. An Ontario native, she went on to graduate from Ryerson University in Toronto. Post-graduation, Lauren worked for multiple firms specializing in office and home decor. She eventually moved back to Edmonton along with her then-boyfriend, McDavid, in 2019.

Their house was designed by Lauren and has a basketball court, a speakeasy-inspired playroom with a pool table, and an outside patio with heaters. When it comes to how the two met, they were set up on a blind date by McDavid’s former teammate, Luke Gazdic.

But the date wasn’t perfect. Lauren says, “He was 18 and I was 19. It was funny because I had to, like, use my ID to get us a bottle of wine, because he was underage.”

After eight years of dating, the two got engaged on June 22, 2023. Lauren called that day “the best day of my life.” They married one year later in 2024 at Lake Muskoka, the same place where the two were engaged. Lauren launched her design studio in 2019 called Kyle & Co.
