The Ottawa Senators have accepted that a new era is underway, but Brady Tkachuk’s impending return continues to cast a shadow over the organization. The former captain is preparing to return to the city where he became the face of the franchise, ensuring that every camera and every fan reaction will be under the microscope.
The upcoming reunion leads to a broader debate about loyalty, player empowerment, and what supporters owe a star who chose a different path, bringing one outspoken broadcaster directly into the conversation.
Sid Seixeiro Urges Senators Fans to Take Belligerent Route With Brady Tkachuk
Tkachuk’s first trip back to Canadian Tire Centre is expected to be one of the emotional highlights of the 2026-27 season, but Canadian sports broadcaster Sid Seixeiro believes Ottawa fans should resist turning the night into a celebration.
Instead, he argued that Senators supporters should learn from how the Toronto Maple Leafs handled Mitch Marner’s departure and send a far different message when their former captain skates onto the ice.
Speaking on The Sid Seixeiro Show, Seixeiro did not hold back as he criticized the idea of tribute videos or affectionate gestures toward a player who used his leverage to leave the organization.
“That overrated snake. Sens fans, don’t Marner this, you’ll regret it. Have some pride in your market. No video, nothing. Don’t do what the Leafs did with Marner; that was a joke. Be better,” he said.
Seixeiro continued by urging fans to avoid bringing signs welcoming Tkachuk back, adding, “Don’t bring a sign that says ‘I Love You Brady’ like an eight-year-old. Get out of here. Don’t do that.”
The comments were rooted in the circumstances surrounding Ottawa’s blockbuster trade with the Florida Panthers on June 21. After requesting a move to begin what he described as the next chapter of his career, Tkachuk reportedly made it clear that he was not planning to sign a long-term contract with the Senators.
His full no-movement clause also allowed him to control his destination, and Florida ultimately became his preferred landing spot, affording him the opportunity to play alongside his older brother, Matthew Tkachuk.
Faced with that reality, general manager Steve Staios shifted his focus toward maximizing the organization’s return rather than risking a distressed asset.
Ottawa acquired the 9th and 25th overall selections in the 2026 NHL Draft, Florida’s 2027 second-round pick, and a top-ten protected first-round pick in 2029, giving the franchise significant assets to continue reshaping its roster.
This history is what makes October 21 much more than another regular-season matchup. It will mark Tkachuk’s first game back in Ottawa wearing Panthers colors, and every reaction inside Canadian Tire Centre will inevitably become part of the story.
