Connor McDavid’s Oilers Down One Center For Game 2 Faceoff Vs. Anaheim Ducks

The Edmonton Oilers earned a narrow win in Game 1, but they’ll head into the next matchup a little short-handed. With a 4-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks already in hand, Edmonton now leads the Round 1 series 1-0, yet an early injury has complicated plans for Game 2.

Oilers Lose Center Before Game 2

The player in question is veteran center Adam Henrique. He exited Game 1 late in the first period after colliding with teammate Kasperi Kapanen. Henrique appeared to clutch his knee before heading down the tunnel and did not return.

Before leaving, he logged just 2:56 of ice time, recording one shot on goal and one hit, a brief outing that now carries bigger implications for Edmonton’s lineup depth.

Head coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed that Henrique will miss Game 2. “He will be unavailable tomorrow, and we’re not sure how long, but he will not be available,” Knoblauch said, leaving the door open regarding the timeline for the injury.

The Oilers bench boss also declined to confirm a replacement but indicated the spot will likely go to either Joshua Samanski or Curtis Lazar. “It was tough taking those guys out, and now during the playoffs, there’s going to be a lot more injuries and guys are banged up and whether you want a different look or different set some different chemistry with the line.”

Knoblauch also acknowledged that lineup changes are inevitable in the playoffs, emphasizing confidence in the team’s depth and noting that several players pushing for minutes were finishing the regular season strongly.

The injury news comes just as Leon Draisaitl returned from his own absence. The star forward missed the final stretch of the regular season with a lower-body injury suffered in mid-March against the Nashville Predators.

Draisaitl made an immediate impact in Game 1, picking up two assists to help Edmonton secure the win. His presence helps offset Henrique’s absence, particularly down the middle.

Another encouraging sign for Edmonton: the Game 1 victory marked the first time all season the Oilers won without a point from Connor McDavid. Previously, the team had gone winless when their captain failed to register a point, making the result a subtle indicator of improved offensive balance.

Despite losing Henrique, the Oilers remain the favorites heading into Game 2. Edmonton showed in the opener that it can generate scoring from multiple lines, but the Ducks proved they won’t be an easy out.

Now, the question becomes whether Anaheim can capitalize on Edmonton’s thinner center depth, or if the Oilers’ depth pieces will step up and extend the series lead.
