The ship has sailed on the Vancouver Canucks’ 2025-26 season, and the management has only one option: work towards a better future. The Canucks’ front office is expected to be rather busy. A veteran defenseman’s trade seems imminent, and Brock Boeser is certainly not feeling enthusiastic about it.
Tyler Myers Trade Talk Has Taken a Hit on Brock Boeser
Tyler Myers is a towering presence on the ice, literally and figuratively, and the veteran defenseman, who is approaching the conclusion of his three-year, $9 million contract with the Canucks, is teetering on the verge of an exit from the franchise. Given the state the Canucks are in, with a rebuild underway, the prospect of Myers’ trade does not seem out of place at all. Nonetheless, Boeser is not too pumped about it.
Boeser stated that losing Myers will mean losing a leader like no other. The veteran defenseman has always been there to cheer on the younger players.
“He’s such a big voice in the room. He’s a big leader, and losing him will suck. He’s such a good guy, a great guy for the young guys and everyone around the rink. Personally, I think he deserves the chance to go win a Cup and just hope he chooses the right team,” Boeser admitted, as reported by Iain MacIntyre for Sportsnet.
The Detroit Red Wings’ interest in Myers is legitimate. According to multiple reports, the Red Wings have already placed their offer to acquire the 36-year-old defenseman. However, Myers, who has a full no-move clause as part of the contract, is not interested in waiving it to join the Red Wings.
Insider Chris Johnston appeared on TSN’s Insider Trading and said that a move to Detroit seems unlikely right now for Myers. “The trade that was put in front of him [Myers] and his agent this week was to the Detroit Red Wings. And I think at this point in time, that is not necessarily a place that Myers is looking to go,” Johnston stated, before adding that Myers could perhaps be interested in seeing what other teams could pursue him, and if the Dallas Stars do, he could be willing to go.
“The Dallas Stars, for example, are a team known to have some interest in him, and I believe he would like to play there if that could work out,” Johnston concluded. The Stars’ interest in Myers has been well-reported, with Canucks journalist Ben Kuzma sharing on social media that the Stars are “kicking trade tires on Myers.”
Besides the Red Wings and the Stars, Elliotte Friedman has added further intrigue to the story by adding that there is news that the Colorado Avalanche is interested in Myers, too. However, it is not an association that Friedman personally sees merit in.
With the intensity of trade rumours and the Canucks’ future steeped in a rebuild, the move appears only to be a matter of time.
