Will Brady Tkachuk Leave Senators After Olympics Backlash? Ottawa Captain Puts Cards on the Table

Brady Tkachuk responds to AI video controversy and shuts down exit talk, reaffirming his commitment to the Ottawa Senators.

The excitement from Team USA’s gold medal win is still fresh as players return to the NHL. That success has also brought more focus on Brady Tkachuk. The Ottawa captain now finds himself dealing with off-ice noise at an important point in the season.

As the Senators try to stay in the playoff race, his situation has gained more attention.

Brady Tkachuk Addresses Senators’ Future After AI Video Controversy Creates Buzz

Tkachuk spoke about his future with the Ottawa Senators after questions came up following the 2026 Winter Olympics. The forward is signed through the 2027-28 season, and he made it clear that leaving the team is not on his mind.

Ottawa is still in the playoff chase, sitting outside a wild-card spot, which has added importance to every game.

When asked if the recent noise could affect how he feels about playing in Ottawa, Tkachuk gave a clear answer. “That’s not even something that’s crossed my mind. I love playing for this team, I love the guys in this room, I really believe in what we’re all about, and that thought has never crossed my mind.”

Tkachuk’s response came as the team looks to build on a 5-1-1 run in their last seven games.

The discussion started after an AI-edited video appeared online on Feb. 22, the same day Team USA beat Canada 2-1 in overtime to win gold. The clip used altered footage from a past news conference and made it seem like Tkachuk made offensive remarks about Canadians. The video was labeled as AI-generated media and quickly gained over 11 million views across platforms.

Tkachuk said the video did not represent him and made his stance clear. “It’s clearly fake because it’s not my voice and not my lips moving,” he said. He also added, “I know that those words would never come out of my mouth.”

As a player who represents a Canadian team, he admitted the situation felt uncomfortable after returning to Ottawa. The situation also included a controversial moment during a Team USA players’ call with President Donald Trump.

On the ice, Tkachuk has continued to play an important role for Ottawa. He scored the team’s only goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Feb. 26. The Senators have shown improvement in recent games, but they still face a tough schedule as they try to close the gap in the standings.

Tkachuk has kept his focus on the team and the season ahead. He remains committed to Ottawa despite the attention around him.
