The Florida Panthers’ hurried decision to make moves at the trade deadline paid off, as evidenced by the team’s postseason success. Although the Panthers will not have the room to make sneaky moves by manipulating the LTIR, thanks to the NHL’s revised cap space rules, we cannot help but wonder if the Boston Bruins ever regretted moving Brad Marchand after watching his exploits in Florida?
Bruins fans miss Marchand, their former captain, who was once an indelible part of the team. In the latest development, when the Panthers dealt Boston a humbling 4-3 defeat, the latter’s fans couldn’t help but express their admiration for Marchand.
How did Boston Bruins Fans React to Opponent Brad Marchand?
After last season’s glorious Stanley Cup ending, the Panthers began the season on a high note with three consecutive victories against the Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers, and Ottawa Senators.
However, plagued by the absence of key players, the defending champions had to withstand four successive road defeats by the Flyers, the Detroit Red Wings, the New Jersey Devils, and the Buffalo Sabres.
As the Panthers struggled to keep face, their victory against the Bruins could not have come at a better moment. With two assists, Marchand came through in all his glory and played an instrumental role in clinching Florida’s much-needed win.
However, Marchand’s return to his former arena was not without a fair share of drama. As Bruins fans expressed their feelings for the ex-captain unabashedly, the 37-year-old failed to control his emotions.
As the Bruins paid a video tribute to Marchand, the winger was reduced to tears. “Say what you want about Marchand, but the Bruins front office should burn for what they did to him,” commented one fan.
They followed up the comment by saying that Marchand did not deserve the disrespect meted out to him by the Boston outfit, adding that they are happy about the veteran winger lifting a cup with the Panthers.
Another stated that although they did not like Marchand, he eventually grew on them. “I used to despise the guy and he has grown on me like crazy.” Notwithstanding Marchand’s pesky reputation on ice, he remains a towering figure in the NHL. Another social media user drew upon the winger’s duality. “Menace on the ice, but seems to be a solid dude off of it? His fans, coaches and teammates love him.”
A disgruntled NHL fan bluntly stated that the Boston front office should have rewarded Marchand handsomely to retain him. “Bruins should have paid him. instead of all those 4th liners that are making a boatload.”

The fact remains that Marchand is a key part of the Panthers’ lineup now, having long parted ways with the Bruins. The more sentimental Boston fans can do nothing but reminisce about the time he went the extra mile to bring glory to the team.
