Amazon Confirms Sidney Crosby, Mikko Rantanen, Leafs’ $92,000,000 Star and More for ‘Faceoff: Inside the NHL’: Season 2

Faceoff: Inside the NHL has earned praise for its authentic storytelling, offering a window into players’ lives far from the ice.

Amazon Prime Video has officially unveiled the player lineup for Season 2 of its hit docuseries, “Faceoff: Inside the NHL,” and it’s stacked with some of the game’s biggest stars. Following a successful debut season, the show is set to return in fall 2025 with even more behind-the-scenes access into the lives of NHL players.

Headlining the new cast is Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, offering a rare look at one of hockey’s most iconic figures. Known for his privacy off the ice, Crosby opens up to cameras in what could be the final chapter of his remarkable career. Joining him is recently retired Minnesota Wild goaltender Marc-Andeé Fleury, whose inclusion brings a farewell element after an illustrious 21-season NHL career.

Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen, now fully settled after his high-profile move from Colorado, is another centrepiece of the series. Toronto Maple Leafs winger William Nylander also features prominently, providing insights into life under the Toronto spotlight.

Returning from Season 1 are Matthew Tkachuk of the Florida Panthers and Brady Tkachuk of the Ottawa Senators, both fan favorites for their candid personalities.

Other players featured include Anze Kopitar and Quinton Byfield from the Los Angeles Kings, Sean Monahan and Zach Werenski of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Seth Jarvis from the Carolina Hurricanes, and the Dallas Stars duo of Thomas Harley and Wyatt Johnston. NHL legend Brendan Shanahan also makes appearances, adding a historic lens to the series.

Behind the Scenes: Deeper Stories and Emotional Moments

“Faceoff: Inside the NHL” has earned praise for its authentic storytelling, offering a window into players’ lives far from the ice. Season 2 aims to push even deeper, featuring expanded access to locker rooms, team meetings, and family lives, giving fans a broader view of the sacrifices and triumphs that define a professional hockey career.

The new season will capture some of hockey’s major storylines from 2025, including Alex Ovechkin’s ongoing chase of Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goals record, the intensity of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and the return of the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, providing a rich backdrop of drama and competition.

Mark Shapiro, head of Prime Video Canada, spoke about what fans can expect in the upcoming season.

“Expect the unexpected,” Shapiro told Sportsnet. “You saw last year in Season 1 just peeks behind that we had never seen before in the NHL, and more access to players than ever before. And what we’re excited about for Season 2 is getting to go even deeper with the players.”

Produced by Box To Box Films and NHL Productions, the same team behind Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Season 2 will continue its cinematic approach, aiming to bring fans even closer to the real lives of the game’s biggest names.

An official release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the series is expected to drop in fall 2025. With this star-studded lineup, “Faceoff: Inside the NHL” Season 2 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated sports docuseries of the year.
