Brady Tkachuk Trade Rumors Continue Rumbling as Speculation Links Central Division Heavyweights With a Move

It’s safe to say that the Ottawa Senators find themselves at a bit of a crossroads. An unsteady regular season followed by a late surge saw them lock in a spot for the playoffs, but getting swept in the first round by the mighty Carolina Hurricanes was a swift reality check for Brady Tkachuk and the rest of the crew.

Attention naturally turns to what general manager Steve Staios can do this summer to ensure that the Senators take that crucial next step and load up to box with the Hurricanes, Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Buffalo Sabres.

But as they look to add to their ranks, it appears they’ll also have to fend off interest in their captain, Brady Tkachuk.

Brady Tkachuk Trade Rumors Refuse to Die Down

The Senators were unceremoniously swept from the playoffs, and in the light of that exit, questions were raised over Brady Tkachuk’s future with the franchise. Ottawa’s ‘Tkaptain’ went scoreless in all four games and finished the series as a minus-4, failing to rally his troops on the ice despite showing glimpses of a fight every now and then.

After getting swept, Tkachuk made his stance on his future crystal clear, noting that he had never asked to be traded and was committed to seeing this thing through. He also called the constant speculation “frustrating,” but that has not quite put an end to the trade rumors.

As of the time of writing, the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers, and Utah Mammoth have all been linked with a blockbuster trade for Tkachuk. Now, you can add one more name to the list: that of the Minnesota Wild.

The Athletic’s senior Minnesota Wild writers penned a column this week, speculating on what moves general manager Bill Guerin could potentially pull off this summer.

“No doubt Guerin has called or will call on everybody from Auston Matthews to Robert Thomas to Jack Hughes to Nico Hischier to Tomas Hertl to Dylan Larkin. He could veer a different direction if a No. 1 center is unattainable, instead going after a top-six winger such as Brady Tkachuk if he’s available,” read the report.

Guerin, of course, is more than familiar with Tkachuk, having witnessed his fiery, relentless persona up close during Team USA’s march to the gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

When Tkachuk was asked for his side of the story in light of the trade rumors, the Senators captain’s words were clear: “It’s frustrating to have to answer something that has never been spoken out of my mouth.”

But 2026 is shaping up to be an interesting summer, where the list of free agents potentially available does not inspire too much confidence. As such, several insiders and analysts believe this could be an offseason where teams push their chips in for more trades, especially with a salary cap that’s set to hit $104 million.

In that world, swinging a move for Brady Tkachuk could be a storyline to keep an eye on. The Bruins appear to be a couple of pieces away from a deep playoff run, while the Dallas Stars also appear primed to make a move if they can’t come to terms with Jason Robertson on a new contract.

The Utah Mammoth are always looking for big swings, and you can never quite count out Florida Panthers GM Bill Zito, who is more than ready to pull a rabbit out of his hat when it comes right down to it.
