2025 Stanley Cup Final: A Look at Oilers vs. Panthers Head-to-Head Record Ahead of Much-Awaited Game 1

The Stanley Cup Final and the bad blood between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers are back.

This isn’t just a rematch. It’s a sequel to one of the most thrilling Final series in recent memory. For the second year in a row, Connor McDavid and Co. will stare down the Panthers with everything on the line.

Game 1 gets underway June 4 at Rogers Place; if it feels familiar, that’s because it is. Last year, these two went the full seven games in a classic that ended with Florida hoisting its first-ever Stanley Cup. Edmonton hasn’t forgotten.

Oilers and Panthers Set for Stanley Cup Final Rematch in 2025

The Oilers return after grinding their way through the Western Conference. They finished the regular season 49-27-6, then took care of the Los Angeles Kings in five games, outlasted the Vancouver Canucks in seven, and put away the Dallas Stars in six.

It wasn’t always pretty, but they got the job done and are back where they believe they belong.

On the other hand, the Panthers look like a team built for this moment. They wrapped the regular season at 52-24-6, cruised past the Tampa Bay Lightning in five, took down the Boston Bruins in six, and handled the New York Rangers in another six-game set.

This marks their third consecutive trip to the Final, a staggering run for a franchise that, until last year, had never won it all. Their victory in 2024 came at Edmonton’s expense, capped off by a Game 7 win that stung deeply in Oil Country.

And if the Panthers have anything to say about it, they’ll repeat the feat. They already own a three-game win streak against the Oilers, including regular-season meetings this year: 5-3 in Sunrise, Fla., and 5-1 in Edmonton.

How Do the Oilers and Panthers Stack Up Historically?

Still, the all-time series between these clubs remains close. Through 51 meetings, Edmonton holds a slight edge at 26-22-3. The Oilers’ biggest moment? That 8-1 demolition of Florida in Game 4 of last year’s Final. Florida’s most lopsided win came via a 6-0 shutout in January 2022.

This series is also rare in NHL history. Not since the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings in 2008 and 2009 have two teams met in back-to-back Finals. What was once a cross-conference curiosity is now a full-blown rivalry.

Game dates are locked in. If it goes the distance, the series could run through June 20. Rogers Place will host Games 1, 2, 5, and 7 (if necessary). Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise will get Games 3, 4, and 6. American audiences can catch the action on TNT, truTV, and Max. Canadians can follow along on Sportsnet, CBC, and TVA Sports.

There is no shortage of storylines, and no love lost as a Stanley Cup is on the line. The Oilers want redemption while the Panthers want a dynasty. Something’s got to give.
