‘I Hope She Sues Me’ — NFL Writer Sends Strong Warning to Dianna Russini in Aftermath of Mike Vrabel Scandal

Journalist Crissy Froyd levels a blunt public warning against former NFL insider Dianna Russini over their ongoing feud after Mike Vrabel scandal.

More than two months have passed since former NFL reporter Dianna Russini resigned from The Athletic. But she still finds herself in the headlines. Now, journalist Crissy Froyd has delivered a scathing, unfiltered ultimatum directly to her.

What Crissy Froyd Said About Dianna Russini

Froyd took to X and announced that she was now pursuing a law degree and that she would be “selective” about which Russini interviews she would do.

“While I am studying law and doing journalism, I want to say I’m very selective on which Dianna Russini interviews I do,” Froyd said. “Please provide something substantial with your request. Otherwise I’d like to move on from an unethical [expletive].”

In a following post, Froyd effectively dared the veteran insider to take legal action. She wrote, “I’ve got too much going for me and am tired of this. I hope she’s found guilty of tampering as she is. And I hope she sues me so I can demand discovery. Dianna, I wish you were worth a feather.”

Froyd’s message is a massive, high-stakes threat. In civil litigation, the discovery process compels both parties to produce internal communications, text messages, emails, and phone logs relevant to the dispute.

For Russini and the New England Patriots organization, a formal legal discovery process could blow the doors wide open on how access journalism is conducted behind the scenes in the NFL.

Rumors have already circulated via several league beat writers alleging that the relationship was an open secret during events like the NFL Scouting Combine, where an estimated 1,000-plus media members and league executives gather annually.

Froyd, who was reportedly dismissed from her freelance role at USA Today Sports in April 2026, immediately after publicly criticizing Russini’s journalistic integrity, has refused to back down.

While major media networks have largely blacked out coverage of the ongoing internal investigations, Froyd has doubled down on the damage she believes this scandal has inflicted on women in sports journalism.

Independent reporters and podcasters have pointed to past reporting anomalies as potential evidence of backroom tampering. For example, a deleted March 2025 post on X regarding Morgan Moses’ signing surfaced, showing a graphic that prematurely featured the Patriots’ logo less than 24 hours before a three-year, $24 million deal materialized.

While Mike Vrabel temporarily stepped away from the Patriots on the third day of the 2026 NFL Draft to attend family counseling, he remains the head coach in New England. Russini, meanwhile, hasn’t said anything since issuing a statement about her resignation to the Athletic.

However, with critics like Froyd actively weaponizing their legal background to demand absolute transparency, the ripples of the Vrabel-Russini scandal are far from over.
