In an offseason where the Miami Dolphins have hit a full offensive reset, with Tyreek Hill, Tua Tagovailoa, and Jaylen Waddle all gone, running back De’Von Achane is back and was handed a massive four-year, $68 million extension.
Kevin Patullo’s De’Von Achane Injury Comments Draw Mixed Reactions
Achane is coming off a career year in which he started all but one game during the 2025 season and posted career highs across the board. He did not suffer any publicly known major injury during the season, which made Patullo’s comments especially surprising.
“It’s gonna be really exciting to get him out there once he’s healthy and ready to roll,” Patuallo said about Achane on Friday.
Achane didn’t attend the voluntary minicamp due to the ongoing contract nogotiations, which makes it even more surprising as he could likely have suffered the injury there if there was any at first place.
Sports doctor Jesse Morse was surprised by the revelation, writing on X, “Achane: “Once he’s healthy.” Once he’s healthy??? What’s he injured with?”
“Achane been hurt? this aint good,” added @XGameFi_org.
“Nice to see Patullo continuing his buffoonery with another organization!” posted @DeanMackeyX.
However, not everyone is concerned, especially given the Dolphins’ willingness to commit significant money to Achane despite any potential health issue.
“Yeah this is a huge nothingburger… if it was a concern at all, Achane wouldn’t have received the contract he just got,” wrote Dolphins commentator Chris Janssen.
“I don’t think I’ve seen a dumber mind in sports. It’s almost impressive, how stupid he is,” posted Philadelphia Eagles commentator Gabe.
No league insiders have reported any health concerns involving Achane, and Patullo may simply have been referring to Achane returning to full participation at camp after missing minicamp activities.
Achane was selected 84th overall by the Dolphins, and after only three NFL seasons, he is already regarded as one of the league’s top running backs.
Last season, he recorded a career-high 1,350 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 238 carries. He also added 67 receptions for 488 yards and four touchdowns, and finished the year ranked as the second-best running back in PFSN’s RB Impact metric, earning an 87.1 grade behind only Buffalo Bills star James Cook’s 90.1 RBi score.
As the Dolphins enter a new era under Patullo, with Malik Willis as the starting quarterback, Achane is expected to remain a vital part of the offense. If there is any underlying issue, his health will undoubtedly be closely monitored. For now, though, there appears to be no major concern, and he is expected to be ready for Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
