‘Cybertruck of Stadiums,’ ‘Looks Like a Prison’ — NFL World Takes Dig at Fresh Look of Browns’ New $2,400,000,000 Stadium

Social media openly mocks the design of the Cleveland Browns' new stadium, scheduled for a 2029 grand opening.

When a franchise, regardless of sport, builds a new stadium, fans and media alike tend to marvel at the palatial setup and state-of-the-art amenities. From luxury boxes to location, various aspects of the planned facility draw attention from just about every corner. The Cleveland Browns are no exception.

For decades, the franchise played at Cleveland Municipal Stadium before the organization left to become the Baltimore Ravens.

Upon returning to the shore of Lake Erie, the team landed at a modern facility. However, as with many franchise owners, the desire to construct a new building becomes appealing. With the release of the plans, social media erupted with opinions on what they saw.

Social Media Explodes Over Sneak Peek of Cleveland Browns’ New Stadium Plans

Since 1999, the Browns have called the stadium at 100 Alfred Lerner Way in Cleveland home, whatever the name attached to it.

Now, ownership has unveiled a new batch of stadium plans (scheduled for a 2029 opening) as social media stood ready to deliver the jokes.

“The Cybertruck of stadiums,” quipped SB Nation writer Jarrett Bailey. The stadium, with sharp angles and futuristic build and framing, resembles the aforementioned electric vehicle.

The eternal hope remains that a new stadium will start an era of winning. Since the team’s return to town in 1999, the Browns have recorded just three playoff seasons, a point not lost on observers.

“Think of the quality of sadness this place will manufacture,” tweeted one user. The Browns, whether by bad luck, rarely seem to escape the misery. Additionally, some believe that the stadium isn’t as original as the Browns hope it would be.

“Looks like the Texas Rangers’ stadium,” stated one X user, drawing a parallel between the potential new building and Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers. While not unique to some, others use a rather famous movie meme to mock the design.

“What is this? A stadium for ANTS?!” queried one user. For context, the tweet refers to a scene from the movie “Zoolander” in which the titular character commissions a literacy center but is too dim-witted to realize the mockup isn’t at full scale. Yet, the shape of the new stadium could end up being the least of the Browns’ concerns.

“I have no strong opinions on the look of that stadium, beyond Cleveland having a dome for football is a bad development.” NFL analyst Sam Monson tweeted. Cleveland is known for brutal winter weather, which served as an equalizer of sorts. Now, the new stadium will have a dome. On top of the losing reputation, keeping the fans engaged could become an issue.

“Looks like a prison… guess that’s their plan to keep people in the stadium,” one user suggested.

The franchise continues to try to change its fortunes year after year. Will the new stadium eventually serve as a turning point?
